I have no advice 'cause my ride is much smaller and only has four wheels... but I'm just glad you're okay, Chewy. The truck, the trailer, the load are all replaceable. You are not. Please keep us posted on the outcome with your company. I'm hoping for the best for you.

As everyone else has stated I am glad you're ok and able to tell about it. Maybe with the winter conditions you will just get a little chewed out and keep your job.
Chewy352 and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
Good luck man.
Skydivedavec and Chewy352 Thank this. -
I knew a few drivers from my time at Schneider that rolled trucks and kept their jobs. Good drivers are very scarce and near impossible to find and retain. Accidents happen and I'm positive roll overs are looked at individually. Hope it all works out for you.

Wow I'm glad most safety directors aren't as gullible as you guys. I'm just saying if you want to make your story more believable. You are going to have to knock up the wind gust to about 40 to 50 mph with 70 in the wagon. I'm not sure what part of US 60 you were on, but the part I drove wasn't as narrow and no need to worry about pulling close to the edge when approaching truck was coming. When there is already limited visibility of my lane do to swirling snow, and supposedly windy. I'm also guessing the two trucks who passed him didn't stop. Then the freak wind gust right at the perfect time. I tell you what if you don't keep your job. There may be a job opening in Hollywood for ya. I'm not saying you are fibbing, but this is just to much of a perfect storm. I would love to see the dash cam video of this event if there was one. I just don't think they would match up to the events posted. Like I said I'm an old timer and most of the rollover stories I have heard always involve getting out of the way of an oncoming vehicle. Never the I was texting, I fell asleep, I reached for my phone, I put it on cruise and had to get my phone out of the sleeper, or the ROAD WAS narrow I got a little spooked about uncoming truck I went too far over. I counter steered to get back out of the grass and laid it over. (watched to many detective shows as a kid)
I'm glad you are ok, but you are blessed the police bought it. Just not sure your safety department or potential employers will. I did a street view on a section of US 60 and the part I seen didn't have the deep ditches. Maybe the section you were on did. But there's no way I would want to be on that road in winter weather and 40 to 50 mile winds that I know oklahoma is known for. Definitely would have slowed truck down to about 40 until trucks passed risking minor damage to my mirror knowing I have no room to spare for a shoulder. I know you a rookie so maybe that's just my experience speaking.Last edited: Jan 5, 2014

Texas has roads like that marked 75 now. In fact they are throwing up 75 signs on anything that isn't inside city limits.Raiderfanatic and Skydivedavec Thank this.

That's Oklahoma. Tons of the state roads are 65 and narrow. OK 51 we run on a lot and it is NARROW and 65. Heck, hit Texas. Some of the roads down there are really narrow and speed limit anywhere from 65-75.Chewy352 Thanks this.

Glad you are OK. A good driver is always compelled to learn from his experiences. Sounds like that is what you are doing.
Best of luck in the review.Skydivedavec and Chewy352 Thank this. -
I'm glad that you are ok and hopefully you learn from this mistake. All I know is that rollovers are frowned upon in our industry so don't expect to keep your job. With that being said keep your head held high and continue to be appreciative for life and the more important things in life. Trucking isn't everything
Skydivedavec and Chewy352 Thank this.
