A friend of mine started out with a conestoga. He is leased to Mercer. As he said: he is a flatbedder and doesn't know how to tarp.

I'm agree ing with flightline on this one. Just did a load out of Minnesota, was three loads, 2 paid the same, the third I took had to be tarped and paid 200 more.
Flightline Thanks this. -
So, all 3 loads were exactly the same weight, exactly the same product and were going to the exact same place? Paid the exact same per mile, except i had to be tarped for $200 extra? Doubtful !!!!!
-
I would say tarping makes alot more difference than weight. Rarely does weight make a difference in the rate unless it goes over 48K
I have heard at most companies that tarping pay very little but here at Mercer we do get all the tarping pay and it does pay better. -
Actually the tarp load was the lightest of the three. Was one big piece of industrial machinery, the control panel needed tarped.
-
happens like that more than you think, one load may just have the controls panels added or something that needs tarped, load will pay the same except for the tarp charge on the one load.
next time you see aload like this on the board ask your coordinator what the linehaul is on both the tarp and untarped load, I don't care how its figured , if the tarp load pays 200 more than the non tarped load, its still 200 more for tarping
I am a bit like cpenn. I look at the overall rate for the miles ran, if it meets my rate goal, I could care less how its figured. to me 2.50 a mile to the truck is 2.50 a mile. -
Well here's what I did today. I replaced the exhaust gas temp sensor (had an old code for that), the egr pressure differential sensor, (it was easy and cheap) and found out my check engine light was on for the turbo inlet air temp sensor (will replace that tomorrow). I can't recall who told me to check the 2 little lines under the egr press diff sensor but they were fairly clean still cleaned them out with carb cleaner. The turbo looked and felt good. Here are some pics.
-
Is it true, if you can move those fins in the turbo that you should replace the turbo cause it could go at anytime??
-
You have to use a micrometer to see how much you can move them. There is always going to be some play in any bearing. If it's a few thousandth off I'd probably keep running it, but more than 10 out of spec. I'm pulling it. It's a judgement call each of us has to make for themselves.
-
That's what I was told that a little play is alright with the new style turbo. As soon as it gets oil pressure it will center it up.
