Finishing my 10th of 12 weeks in classroom training today. I hit the yard on Monday March 7, 2014 to begin 10 weeks of hands-on driver training. The 540 hour program sounds like a long time but it is very thorough and moves quickly. Mostly due to the high caliber of the instructors. I first went through and graduated from NETTTS' 200 hour program in 1985 receiving my class III chauffer's license. After 4 years of driving, CDL's were put into effect and being the stubborn, thick-headed young guy that I was I got out of the industry. When I made the decision to return to the trucking industry it wasn't a tough decision where to go since I was an alumnist.

Good for you and welcome back! What type trucking are you interested in?
blairandgretchen and Swamprat55 Thank this. -
Good stuff. Long course - which is good. No such thing as too much training.
Swamprat55 Thanks this. -
Thanks. I'm interested going back to OTR. Years ago I did East Coast, but this time around I'm looking forward to 48 states. Looking for my ideal spot for retirement.

Thanks! Yes the course is long but thorough. I believe when I graduate here with my CDL and combine it with orientation training of the company I go with I'll definitely have a good knowledge base and the confidence to hit the road again. I've learned so much more this time around I know I'll be a much better and safer driver his time.

Retirement; 9 state have no personal income taxes. That's what I did, looked for a nice place to retire where there's acceptable weather year round and no personal income taxes....Las Vegas, Nevada!!!!
Swamprat55 Thanks this. -
My thought exactly! My first thought for acceptable weather, especially after this winter, was somewhere in the Southwestern U.S. Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona. We'll see still have a few years to go.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Some of the better 48 state carriers may not hire out of your location. I think Melton Truck Lines does though.
Swamprat55 Thanks this. -
Thanks, I've never heard of Melton. I'll check them out.

Chinatown, I checked on Melton. Read over their website and talked with a recruiter. Appeared to be a good company but a flatbed at my age is a bit too much for me now.
