My hubby and I recently graduated CDL school in febuary. One other guy in our class who became like our own brother.

He went with Averitt and all was well until he got with his trainer. He was telling us that his trainer was texting while driving and doing dumb stuff....

well, our friend went to bed and strapped himself in, thank God he did that, while the trainer kept on driving...

and ran straight into a parked UPS truck on the side of the road. Completely tore off the side of the Averitt truck, and sent the UPS truck flying down into the woods (with driver inside).

Luckily, no one was seriously hurt. But we are mad that this trainer would be so careless. He must of being doing something like snoozing or texting to run into a parked truck.

What do you think Averitt will do with this trainer? We hope he will be fired.

Our friend doesn't know if he wants to be a truck driver anymore. He was only two weeks into training when this happened.

Yeh...I would hope this guy gets fired...heck of an introduction to trucking for your friend. Ignorance runs rampant in this industry...this is the result.

He'll probably be fired regardless of any relevant findings that may also come about. Trucking accidents are on the rise on par with the number of truck miles that are on the rise (probably the accident rate is surpassing the truck miles rate and this would make sense to me the way I see things in the occupation). It's always much more dangerous when your part of a "team" in terms of the likelihood of getting involved in an accident (twice as likely)

I am glad your friend is ok and sorry they had to start out like this but seems sad truth there is trainers out there like that. I would like to know how Averitt treated your friend after this it is clear the trainer will be fired. I am sure the friend will need time to think but if they want to drive to stick with it. If me a big part would be how I was treated after this does the comp[any care or should I move on to a better company. I hope all works out and wish them the best of luck.

The ex-trainer will be posting here shortly, asking who will hire him since he recently bumped a parked truck.

I can't even tell what kind of truck that mess is. I hope they hire him but no worries as CR England or Western Express will pick him up.

Sorry about your friend.Tell him not to let that discourge him from fulfilling his dream. My first trainer was with Werner got in a wreck, totaled the trk.He jackknife and the fuel tank went thru the truck on the side I was sleping. He drove too fast for road conditions.I did get another trainer but the remainder of my training I never got a good sleep .Everytime he hit a bump I was up making sure he was still on the road.I would suggest to your friend to ask Averitt for a well exp trainer and a near perfect safety score.Very fortunate no one got hurt and yes I see that trainer getting fired.

Not really. Many if not most drivers are pretty lax about driving on the paint. Usually there's nothing there to hit, so it's OK, until there is.

Doesn't want to drive a truck, or doesn't want to try to sleep with his life in the hands of a stranger? I couldn't blame him for either.
