What?
Drag is exponential, which means its squared. Go twice as fast, it takes four times the power. So if he slowed to 70, he would be getting 4.8mpg instead of 4.2.
I know it works, Ive actually tried it on my jeep by slowing from 70 to 65... My MPG went from 19 to 24
I tried it on my Cascadia... and it went from 6.8 to 7.6 mpg. I even got 7.8mpg one month. -
If a truck can't run the speed limit in the states you run it is slow. Now don't get me wrong if a company has slow trucks that isn't the reason it is a bad company. However it isn't a desirable place to work for a driver with experience because if they can't trust the driver to run fuel efficiently with a truck that can run then there will be a lot of other annoying rules like routing & where to fuel to name a couple. I could go on & on. My point is if every driver would quit working for the big companies that want to hold your hand after they get a couple years experience then they wouldn't exist. I can't see that as narrow minded because I have followed this rule since the early 80's & done quite well. I bought my first truck in '02 & the last truck I bought I paid cash for.

I'd be very interested in knowing the answer to that. But I don't expect to ever get it.rank and joseph1135 Thank this.

I work for a governed company. They don't tell us where to fuel or what route to take. Hell most of the time we have to call the places for correct delivery times and directions. Your generalizing and grouping every one in a big group just cause they are governed.
My company is only governed because the drivers were getting too many speeding tickets when they were ungoverned. That right there is why companies do what they do- to prevent potential problems.
If people CAN do something they WILL do it if they think they can get away with it. It's basic human psychology. -
My driver is in a truck that will run well into the triple digits, I don't worry about it because he uses his #### head, if I feel I can't trust someone to handle an ungoverned truck then I don't want them working for me, and vice versa..If your company (and many others) would stop hiring morons it wouldn't be such an issue...Last edited: May 4, 2014

Well, if CR England was our size, they would have 54 deaths, and CRST would have 81. We have 1 in 15 trucks in a reportable accident, CRE is 1 in 8, and CRST is 1 in 5.
You want to know what is scary? We are AVERAGE. So now you know why there are 3-4000 truck related deaths each year. The average company has an insane accident rate, mainly because of a total pack of leadership skills. Motivating your people is free...cost nothing, and always pays. That's what made America great in the first place, people like FDR and Eisenhower.
Real leaders empower their subordinates, not sap off of them. -
So you are saying that as much as you are against speeding, paper logs, and violating hours of service that you would given the opportunity.

Who cares? 62-67-92. Your still going to end up spending 5 hours at the dock. I don't care how fast I go, I only care how fast I can leave , and if my company will back me up on it.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
I stopped reading this ridiculous thread after the first page. That said, I own my truck. It is not governed. I almost always drive under the speed limit. Why? Cuz I have to pay for fuel and fix my own truck.
I make more money going 63 in a 75 than I would 75 in a 75. I see no reason for trucks to ever go 75mph and I wouldn't want to be around some of you going that fast behind 80,000lbs.!
