I worked for a tanker company and probably 99% or the drivers were former car haulers with back problems. Tanker work is easy physically.

If you really really need a job, Werner has an opening for a Utah-Wyoming fleet that runs from an Iowa drop yard. Im back to training for Werner, and they are a very average company, except that they buy really good equipment lately. Its a paycheck... and it will give you a chance to prove yourself again.
That said, after 6 months or a year, they have good dedicated runs that open up, and you might not want to leave. Thats what happened to me. I showed up for the experience, and ended up staying except for a few months on flatbed. That really opened my eyes to the truth about Werner.
A paycheck is a paycheck, and Werner is better than half of all companies... so there is no reason to go with anybody worse than them. If a company isnt in the top half of CSA scores, there is no reason to give them a chance. Bad CSA means bad company... especially since a company like Werner can do average. Anybody who cant match Werner, doesnt deserve to be in business, because Werner is a backup company. Being worse than a backup company is just not acceptable.
Also, I know a guy who has a new back that is doing flatbed for hunt, which is crete's sister company. You might be able to get in with Crete if you are lucky. I saw a hell of a lot of really happy Crete guys when I was doing flatbed for Hunt.FRG1735 Thanks this. -
Just came out of the dmv here in California trying to get my license transferred from Utah.
Im noy to happy about the process, first of all I had to pay $70 for thw transfer then I had to take 4 written tests.. to top it all off, they say
that my dot physical from Utah is no good here (did it about 3 weeks ago).. they said it has to be done on one of their long forms, with the exact same questions... Thats another $75 i have to shell out. Now im starting to understand why a lot of people dislike california.. -
Contact smaller companies and dont mention back issues. Also with new csa rules if your off road 1 year or more you must go to school to retrain. One option is to contact c.r. england. I hate them but they helped me get 6 months in after being off road for 15 months. Just dont bring up ur back. Firm rule...if not asked dont volinteer info

Do not go to CR England! I train their guys all the time, they constantly quit and come to Werner.
And if the law says you have to be retrained, I sure haven't heard that before. My last student quit CR England and I had to train him 175 hours...he sure as hell didn't need to go back to get a CDL after 3 years off.
Where did you hear that drivers needs to be retrained after a year?
