I wish I had known the tricks a year or so sooner with the elogs that I know now. I learned late in my tenure with Swift there are all kinds of tricks and cheats to extend your day.

A GOOD ONE IS THE 'ROLLING 30'. YOU KNOW YOU NEED A 30 MINUTES BREAK SO ABOUT 10 MINUTES BEFORE YOU GET TO YOUR EXIT FOR THE BREAK, YOU PULL OVER REAL QUICK ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND HIT "OFF DUTY. GET BACK UP TO SPEED AND 4 MINUTES LATER PULL OVER AGAIN AND SWITCH IT FROM D TO OFF DUTY AGAIN. THEN BET BACK UP TO SPEED AND GET TO YOUR EXIT. SWITCH IT BACK TO OFF DUTY AGAIN. CREEP OVER TO THE TRUCK STOP AND WASH YOUR HANDS OR WHATEVER THEN GET BACK IN THE SADDLE AND PROCEEED BACK TO THE FREEWAY.Get up to speed and pull over about 4 minutes later and wait for that 30 minutes to roll over. Meanwhile you've only sat a net of 10 minutes or so.

Sorry for the all caps, not retying all of that lol.
Early on I had gone over by a couple minutes and the thing was flashing red, I figured it was directly signalling Safety. Turns out you can move the truck on Line 5 as long as it never 'trips' over to OD meaning up to 4 minutes at high speed then stop and reset it to Off Duty for a few mins then back to Line 5 or creep along even on Line 1 or Line 2 17 miles per hour or less. I turned down a million loads that would have had me moving the truck around after the clocks had run out. Back on the paper log days It didn't bother me, just pull into the truck stop late at night and make a parking spot then move the truck to a legit spot some hours later. Elogs gives you all kinds of bells and whistles for doing that, but like I said, it is OK to do that so long as it does not 'trip' over to D. I learned this from a safety guy. lol.

Welp it's been a fun and relaxing 14 days at home, now gearing up to get back on the truck this evening and get loaded for Dallas .

Here in El Paso sluming as Steve says. Almost beer 30. Already a pplan. PU in Santa Terasa Wednesday, live load at 1530, all of 9600 lps and up to Rockfort, good old Lowes. Nice 1400 mile run to start the new week. Get up there Friday, late afternoon, and will be planned out real quick. Almost was going to Valdosta, but my DM says take the Rockfort one. Easier to get out.

Lima, OH at some hole in the wall truck stop (more like a gas station with 4 truck parking spots)

Taking the back roads from goshen, IN back to the DC in Columbus. Through trial and error I have discovered that as much of a pain as it is to drive 180 miles on county roads and small us highways this way is a good bit faster than going all the way out of the way down I-75 to I-70 in Dayton then over to Columbus.

Dont have to pick up til later tonight anyways and I got us within 90 miles of the DC so my co-driver will have an easy shift today. He'll pick up the load then get us within an hour or two of our first stop in buffalo, NY.

I don't mind the NY runs. They have plenty of miles and they are easy stores, but I-90 is a drag and when I get bored I like to listen to talk radio and all I keep picking up out there is the Canadian stations. I think I need to get xm radio sometime in the near future. At least it's not as bad as the drive from Dallas to El Paso. It amazes me how much empty land is out there that Texas just can't figure out what to do with.

I did that once to get to and from a Walmart for supplies during a 34.
Miss the mark by a few seconds and you'll be in violation.
Still, it is a lot of work to avoid a 30 minute break when I need to stop at some point to eat. And that takes at least 20 minutes.

The extra 10 minutes doesn't usually kill my delivery time.
If I am running that hot I didn't plan the trip that well.

And face it, we can plan our trips with that extra time with no problem.
Mac 9 is great for extending the times for pick up and delivery to meet our needs.

And if I lose a load because of 10 extra minutes - or 60 - then I didn't want it in the first place.
I let the planners work around MY schedule - not the other way around!
    And guess what?
Another load with better times is just around the corner. Either that, or I will get a message asking me to just pick up and deliver ASAP - which again, is by my own times.

Be careful with those "4 minute" segments. They *will* show up on an audit. Same goes for pulling fuses.

    XM radio rules!
Well, except when the signal is too weak. Which is too often for my liking.
Still, it's nice to be able to get my favorite stations no matter where I am.
Walmart has good prices. Don't buy it at a truck stop.

And it's not like Texas doesn't know what to do with all that space.
It is that they don't WANT to do anything with it. They like the open range, and I can't fault them for that.

If Texas wanted to, they could build things up so much that they could rule the world. They could make CA (or any other country) seem like a backwater slum.
Personally, I'm glad they are more laid back than that.
An aggressive Texas would be a very scary thing for anyone not Texan.
