Dont know what type of trailer you use for the test, if it has sliding tandems slide them all the way back. Using a volvo will help you a bit. adjust your mirrors so that the edge of your trailer is visible just at the inner edge of the mirrors. That way you wont have to look out the window. Picture in your mind going around a corner , the 90 degree backing is the same movement but in the opposite direction the setup and movements are the same but you are going backwards around the corner. If you get the truck prior to the test slide your 5th all the way back, that will give you more clearance for your flairings, you wont be able to do this after the test when you are driving but for the test it will be ok.

Lots of youtube videos on backing techniques. Here's one of my favorites on 90-degree backing.

Yea one of my favorites but you can't use it for testing.

LOL a safety guy who doesnt use his seatbelt when doing a video to show how its done, EPIC FAIL

if it makes you feel any better the hardest back for me is a straight back into a dock with plenty of of room and no other trls in site. you get me a tight spot and i can back rite in. am retired now but drive a school bus part time my bus is always crooked in the barn. so dont become discouraged sometimes its just one of those things lots of luck

Trailers we use for practicing driving, backing and on test is 48' with non-adjustable tandems. Tester doesn't care if I use seatbelt or not on backing.

That is nice but on test I have to have trailer/tractor lined up straight. I guess I don't feel so bad cause we had a "super trucker" kid who was so confident he'd pass and he failed on backing-went too far back through cones and lost too many points. And there were some other guys with much more experience than myself and failed on backing.

The turn in reverse still applies dont know anyone who isnt straight driving down the road who will go far without being pulled over and check for impaired.

Whoever suggested sliding the tandems all the way back.... its okay for practice but probably illegal to be on the road with the axles slid back all the way.
