I have 13 years experience driving and my wife is wanting to learn so we can team. Do any of you know of a company that will let me train her without going to driving school? Would she already have to have her cdl or would a permit work. Thanks for looking.

Good luck with finding that...Most companies want the students to go to their school because they get a paycheck from the federal government for every student that graduates.....plus they get the money from the student for the schooling loan.....it is really sad they all do this but what can we do?

You could talk with ODFL.
You sign on as solo.
She goes through in house training.
She drives 4 weeks P&D and line haul - no OTR.
you then team.
Then she tells you all your bad habits until you eventually strangle her.
Then you call me and I help with body disposal.
I drive team, but I can forge her signature . . . -
And after 2 years you're on .66 cpm and smirking all the way to the bank.

Don't get mad if she's a better driver. You taught her everything she knows.

I too am in the same boat. She wants to drive. She wants to go through roadmaster just like I did.... I don't want to have to go back to work for a mega carrier and become a trainer again just so I can teach her. Any opinions?

No (short answer).
Permit won't work if your OTR.
It might make your relationship less complicated, if she learns to drive at a school ? (multiple edits on that).
I think there are companies that will allow you to train your wife after she graduates from a Truck School.Last edited: Jun 16, 2014

I pretty much figured no body would go for the permit deal but I thought I would ask anyway. That is how I learned to drive was on a permit. It was a local job though and that was quite a while ago.

You've got the exp.Have her go to the cheapest school, like these 3 week courses and you give her tips ,advice to pass. Then look for a company that will let you train her.Alot of companies don't have enough trainers.Maybe they'll let you take a trainer trainee class which is like 3 days I think. They may have a policy that you have to be with the company so long too but don't hurt to ask.
