Hey guys, I just went through the hiring process at OD and would like to share my experiences and progress. Also, any advice would be great because I'm completely new to the truck driving world.

I have no training or experience. I simply knew someone who has been with the company a long time. That's how I got my foot in the door. I guess it helps too that there's nothing on my driving record..not even a ticket. No criminal background, decent work history.

I called the terminal to set up a time to apply. I went in and did the application online, which is in-depth because they want good workers. Within a day or two they called to set up an interview. The next week I went for my interview. I was told by a current employee that it was a good sign to have an interview. The interview was simple. The linehaul manager basically just explained the job and I told her I was still interested. I went down the road to take my drug test, brought the form back to OD, then they took my picture for my name badge. They told me I would get a call, they just had to wait for my background check to come back.

A week or so later they called and said it was good. Monday August 11 I go in for a class I must take. After that's finished they said they will set up my yard time. The driver training starts in late September. Just gotta do 25 hours of yard time before then.

I was told I will be team driving after my training. 6 days out then home for 2. I'm just really excited and nervous to start training. I'm only 23 and feel blessed to have this opportunity.

ODnoob welcome to the LTL world. Getting a bit of yard time is gonna be very valuable for you. That is where you will learn how to hook your doubles and how to pre trip the converter dolly (very important). Also it will give you some experience with actually driving the doubles in the yard before you go on the road with a trainer.

One bit of advise I will give you is when you packing for your trips don't bring every single thing you own into your trainers truck. All you need is the basics for clothing etc.... Enjoy your career with OD you made an excellent choice. Ultimately listen to what your trainer is telling you, take your time, and be safe always.

I'm really excited and all this feedback is great so thanks everyone! Anyone care to share about their first experiences behind the wheel of a tractor trailer? I'm extremely nervous haha.

Work hard, try to get as much knowledge as you can, you are with a great company and if you stick it out you can retire with this company with some luck. Be safe out there, good luck.

Once you get shifting down its just like driving a car just swing it wider, check your mirrors often, but look more down the road and constantly train your eyes to cycle thru your mirrors/distances near/far, and develop your peripheral vision. We were all there with the nervousness, I remember my last job road test before we got into the tractor trailer he asked are you nervous and comfortable driving this(because he had too, they had a trainee had a bad accident the week before so if you said you weren't comfortable that would be the end of the road test), I was so nervous also, I get even more nervous if I try to make small talk and they ignore you, which he did lol. But I passed anyway, just be safe out there that's whats most important, you are the #1 asset.

Yeah, from what I've read it sounds like OD is very good about training and making sure you are comfortable with everything so that makes me feel better.
