A lot of drivers don't hang their chains, regardless of division. Prime doesn't put chain racks on all trucks by default and charges lease drivers for them. They also make you buy the chains, and if you buy them new and open them, they will only refund you the cost of used chains when you want to return them.

Drivers were selling them at truck stops for quick cash and the. Coming back in for another set which was cost Prime a lot of money. So Prime figures make the drivers pay for them and they won't be so quick to sell for quick cash. Prime has the same policy when it comes to load locks.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Most of us take them off during the summer months because of the weight. You will see chains again here shortly as September 1 chain law goes into effect in the north west. Some of us also carry cables year round. But the reason you don't see em is due to the fact that they are in our headache rack

Only Colorado requires chains starting 9/1, between MM133 and MM259 on I-70. The only other state that requires chains to be carried during a certain time period is Washington, and that starts on 11/1.
A common misconception is that California and Oregon require chains to be carried between certain dates as well, however, both states only require chains to be carried when posted. -

I've never even considered selling company equipment. I wonder why they would be compelled to do so?

Wrong,,Oregon and Washington require chains to be carried plus one spare chain between certain dates no matter what the weather is,,Oregon is big on checking for chains the first few days after I believe Sept 1 in the fall,,seen them giving out tickets one day when it was 80 degrees in Ashland
