I don't know much of anything about the Texas yard. Hopefully someone else can post up and help you out there Petey.
I've been pretty lazy on my spreadsheets the last month or so, but i finally got them all caught up so i figured I'd share the results. This is for the 200 (OTR) fleet with about 15 months of exp. now. These #'s are also as of all trips completed up to 8/1. I'm going to wait to share anything further until i get paid for it since i wasn't told my paid mileage on several trips.

Things seem to be working out pretty well with the new dispatcher #'s wise. My goal for 2013 was a calculated gross income of over 40k since i didn't work that whole year and i smoked past it in the 43-44k area IIRC. It's posted somewhere back in the thread. The goal for 2014 was to gross over 50k since I'll be working the whole year here if i don't quit/get fired. Based on these #'s it's certainly going to be doable if we keep this pace up but with winter looming ahead i think it's going to be closer to 48k when it's all said and done this year. If i stay with Systems Transport on the OTR fleet i will continue to make this forever. My 3rd trainer who has been on the OTR fleet for 4 years has only ever grossed 52k for his record high with Systems Transport (I was his one and only trainee so training pay is irrelevant in his records).
The goal for 2015 is 60k minimum so I'll have to leave Systems Transport to make that happen as I'm not interested in joining the Pole/blade fleet.
I'm kind of thinking of going owner operator. If it isn't obvious already from reading this thread I have a very Type A personality at least when it comes to business. I was making more money as an independent business operator than i was at my first job which i only got because my dad insisted i get a "real" job. This was because while other kids in school were going to sporting events i was putting flyers in mail boxes and spending my afternoons networking with potential clients, drafting up new marketing tools or doing the actual work i was advertising. I was much happier under those circumstances as well. I don't think I'll ever do well working for someone else as most employers want robots (Systems is extremely guilty of this). I much prefer to innovate and grow than simply maintain a mediocre existence.petey387 and Milktanker Thank this. -

Hey how's it goin everyone? Figured I would drop in and say hi. The cow hauling is in full swing and I have been running my guts out.
Ramblinman I think you would do pretty well as an O/O. I have not regretted one minute since I made the jump. I have been having a blast with this job again. Even if you pull for system I think you would be a lot happierramblingman Thanks this. -
Just got my truck on Friday. First load is tomorrow morning to Cheyenne. Glad I'm done with training though. Really didn't care for the training driver manager at all. But I'm done with dealing with him so thats a plus. Now the real learning begins.
ramblingman Thanks this. -
Cool. I should be leaving tomorrow on my first load as well. Who was your driver training manager, what you didn't like about him?
ramblingman Thanks this. -
Think he means Dale... the guy who runs the training program.

A couple tid bits I'll share with you that i did not learn in training and ended up learning the hard way. These may not apply to you if you are not going on the 200 fleet (OTR) , but I'll share regardless.
1.For your first 3 months you will be on the green fleet and required to scale all loads no matter what. Scale tickets cost 10.50 now and are a hassle to get reimbursed for. During training your trainers probably paid for these scale tickets in cash and got reimbursed and your probably thinking that's your only option. If your scaling inside the fuel network (pilots,FJ's,Loves,Petros,TA's) you can use your EFS Card or Comdata Card (use whichever one is approved for the fuel stop your at) to pay for the scale ticket with just your truck # and Trip #. While we're on the subject of fuel networks to retain your yearly .5CPM raise only a 90% compliance is needed. You can fuel at any fuel stop in the aforementioned network any time.
2.The trucks will turn themselves off after 5 minutes. You guys didn't train during winter and if your trainers were anything like the 3 of mine he probably didn't prepare you much for it either. The trucks factory setting to override the Idle shut off feature is at 0*. As of last winter due to fuel gelling issues the shops were ordered to turn the trucks up to 15* (your truck may not have been updated yet,let the shop know ASAP if not). If your dash temperature gauge is below 15* LEAVE THAT TRUCK RUNNING. Even if it warms up the truck will continue running untill you shut it down manually. Also if you have a check engine light on the idle shut down will not function and you can idle it as much as you need.
3. On the topic of Fuel Gelling. If it gets below 15* start using the fuel gel. Use 1 bottle per tank for the first 3 fill ups and then a 1/2 bottle per tank after that. If you buy fuel in the south and run north it may not be properly treated. You can buy 2 bottles of Howes Anti Gel at a time with the EFS card anywhere inside the approved fuel network or stock up when you hit one of the yards.
4.There is a terribly convoluted coolant System on these trucks due to the APU and Main engine sharing the same coolant. This is brilliant in theory as the APU warms the waterjacket of the primary engine, but a nightmare in winter due to coldwater leaks. If you don't know what they are now by the middle of this winter you will likely know them well. Once you track down the coolant Leak (look for red fluid) if it is rear of the main engine compartment It's the APU and you can generally fix it by closing a valve underneath the passenger seat. You can see it between the top step and bottom of the cab just barely within hands reach. As long as the valve is closed make sure you turn off the APU via the switch inside the casing itself or the interface inside. If you don't your liable to blow up a 12,000 generator. I was able to avoid having to call breakdown service many times due to tightening/replacing clamps and shutting off coolant flow to the APU.
P.S never add Green Coolant or water to the coolant Reservoir to top it off. We use long life Red Coolant in these engines and if you put anything else in the entire system needs to be flushed and refilled with Long life Coolant which is very expensive.
5.The power divider is essentially a 3rd differential that locks the two differentials together. The front and rear drive differentials are open however. Therefore you can run the truck up to 65mph on dry ground with the Power Divider locked and no significant short term damage will be done. Not recommending you do that just using it as an example to explain operation.
-To properly engage the power divider while stopped take it out of gear and engage the power divider then put it in gear and drive away.
-To properly engage the power divider in motion take it out of gear while rolling and engage the power divider. Wait a second or so and then jack the rpm's up and put it in gear. I've engaged it up to 65mph without issues.
Hope things are going well for you guys. I'd appreciate it if you posted periodic updates. Prospective drivers can read this thread and see my personal experience starting trucking and my experience with Systems. It would be cool if they could see something comparable from someone else though.
Then again maybe this thread is comprehensive enough considering when i started there was nothing more than a couple several year old vague at best threads on Systems. Wouldn't want to make it to easy on the newbies.

Thanks boss, lots of good info in there.
We never once scaled while I was in training unless where ever we were had a scale, such as Lowes or a scrap yard. I will have to keep that in mind. They said during orientation that you can scale at all the Cat Scales, but then said nothing after that. I also was not aware that I was required to scale ALL my loads for a certain period of time. Interesting..... I'll start doing that though.
My APU is working good right now. I did notice that when I have the engine running (not the APU) the sleeper berth doesn't get any air even though I have the button pushed. Am I missing a step here? I also need to get the lock on my driver door fixed. I can only lock it from the inside then go out the passenger side. Not a big deal but much easier and faster when I only have to get out of the drivers door.
What tools do I need to carry with me? I found myself with a blown trailer hub seal this week and was able to effect a repair on the road. However what I fixed was not what was broken apparently as I had to call roadside later that day as the hub was still not keeping oil. After the hub was fixed I made it back to the shop and found that that hub was out of oil again! I'm thinking more than just a hub cap now. I'm chasing bunnies here. I have a pair of channel locks, pliers, needle nose pliers, a set of both large and small allen wrenches, regular screw driver, phillips screw driver, and a SAE socket set with 1/4 and 3/8 in sockets. I also carry extra engine oil, coolant, 5h wheel greese, hub oil, and absorb all. I think I have my bases covered. I do need to pick up a spare air line and pig tail. Any other thoughts?
Other than Friday being a pain in the butt with a screwy trailer, it was a good week. I had some good loads and made some good money. Being on the truck by myself I've learned theres a lot to keep track of and keep in mind. Little things like making sure fuel caps and hood latches get secured! And doing all the stuff on the qualcom that needs to me done. I did all this while training, but there is also no one else looking over my shoulder to make sure I do it right.
Right now I'm having fun with it. Enjoying the driving. Thats why I took this job. Thats why most of us took this job, right? I know there are going to be sucky days. I know there are days that will be a lot fun. Just keep rollin with it.
Mike
PS. Several friends have asked me to start a blog, which I will probably do this weekend, if I do I'll post a link here. With any luck I'll have some good photos too.ramblingman Thanks this.
