That was my original intent when I started it, that and just a little way to vent my frustrations of a week long streak of undocumented TBO's

I was talking about when I see random trailers that have issues. If I have my pick of empty trailers at a customer/OC, I'm not gonna pick one that's defective just so I can take it to a shop and wait for them to fix it. I'll leave it there and get the next one. If it's the only one left, I'll tell ops that there are no usable trailers and wait for them to send me after another empty. But, like I said before, that's of course dependent on me knowing that there's a problem. I do a thorough pre/post trip every time, but if I don't know what a defective item looks like when it's defective, how am I supposed to report it?

As for the mechanic I referred to it was written up as a slider Issue Yes it was hard to slide but it wasn't defective and when the mechanic said he wasn't worried about it because the handle was hard to pull and a sissy driver couldn't get it to work yet he and I both did he said he'd clear it. Maybe this for an Idea by posting the crappy trailer issues on here and calling out the driver why not call out the company, are you scared you might lose the job you have for speaking out to the root cause which is crappy equipment. See by calling out the driver the issues never get fixed they just get blamed on someone else and the company takes no blame. I have no problem NOT taking a defective trailer but because of a thread like this SOME drivers are just gonna mark trailer as defective as not to be mentioned in a thread in a public forum yes some could care less leave it to the next guy but the company is the one who HAS to fix the trailer. It's the drivers responsibility to notify the company of the defect and some do some don't. I know if it's broken and I get the trailer it either goes OOS or I stop and get it fixed but when it's written up by the previous driver and the shop says it's not broken and I can't see the issue as mentioned to start the only other option is to pull it or sit for a issue they won't fix. A lot of the newer drivers think everything will be perfect and in trucking it isn't I say if you feel unsafe about the trailer or you get one that says its good but you find defects then YOU put it out of service and get a different trailer.

This appears to be a major issue with Schneider. Why don't they hire a local driver to manage empty trailers that need repaired? Sounds like this could maybe be a part-time job for someone. It would free up drivers to haul freight, not sit and wait for repairs. Seems it would be more profitable for Schneider.

SNI is pretty good about getting stuff fixed if they know about it. Far from perfect but if you have an issue they do work to get it fixed... most of the time. But many drivers don't take the time to look for or report defects, especially since sitting for repairs means you lose out on pay, no matter if you are a company driver or contractor.

It's up to the drivers to make the difference but many just don't care. They just want to drop the load, blast through the workflow, check the "no defects" box on the DVIR report out of pure habit, and get on with their lives.

I don't want to sit and wait for repairs any more than the next guy but if it is a safety issue, I don't chance my CDL with it. Nitpicky stuff can wait, sure. But stuff like worn out brake shoes, tandem pins that won't lock in, severe air leaks, , lamps I can't replace myself, etc., I will get fixed. I'm not putting my *** on the line for SNI's equipment.

I think like 91B20H8 the intent of this thread is more than venting for anything. You know, just letting out some frustration when your day went from good to crap because of a crappy piece of equipment.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if I saw my name come up this thread eventually. I'd actually get a good laugh out of that. I'm not perfect, I'm sure I've missed some stuff when I drop a trailer, leaving it for the next driver to find and sigh and say "... thanks driver".

Bottom line is regardless of what the others do, it's good to see that there are drivers out there that will take the time to at least check over the major safety components before leaving it for the next guy to find out. Because who knows, that next driver might be one of those that backs under, cranks up the gear, hooks up the airlines and rolls without taking a second glance. God forbid your family is in the car behind that trailer and the tandem set comes crashing through the stop bar when the driver slams on the brakes because the tandems were never locked in.

    Two shout outs this morning.

First thanks to Prince for dropping ta974561 in the dock after hitting and not reporting something yellow, jacking up the off bar and marker light on the passenger side. I really enjoyed the 30 minutes on the phone with safety last night before I could leave the shipper. And coming off the highway with 30 seconds on ny 14 was fun too (missed a spot in my first T/S by a minute, then had to run another 30 miles to a hurry hole). I will also enjoy another hour on the phone this morning with a combo of safety, sem, and.my dbl getting case numbers straightened out.

Second thanks to my loving sister who ignored my pleas to wait a week's until I'm home to "fix".a non issue on ny homes heater. She didnt have the tools, the knowledge, the height or the strength. Now my two hour project will be a two day ordeal.

here's a nice story, calling out no one exactly but a nice event that had happen to me.

By customer demand, they want the trailer door seal replace. No problem, I'll called dispatch, which said no mts within 100 miles from me. Typical of course. Okay sem help me out. Nice, few minutes later I'm driving 40 miles to a shop. Oh guess what, don't have the right one, apparently the trailer I have needs a special rare seal. Grr.. duct tape would just work if this customer didn't notice... Okay sem...help ...again. they called, n called and apparently this rare seal is like a gem. Closer shop with the right size is in shelbyville, il. I'm in Springfield, il, I just came from Jacksonville, il. Okay...well sitting here crying isn't getting the job done...

Two hours later navgo puts me in downtown shelbyville. Okay Google map help. Hmm I'm getting two different location...I'll call.
    (Phone has been disconnected)

Okay...I'll call the number on navgo..

Hi, I'm trying to find you, what cross street are you located?

    "Something something street"

Hmm werid Google and my navigation is saying you guys are in main st in shelbyville Illinois..

Oh you must be schneider...we thought you guys were talking about our main location...in st Louis....Missouri..there's no one in Shelbyville...he called in today..

Short story long... this repair shop was extremely helpful...on the phone and in person. Gave excellent direction. And even called someone they knew to show up at their...little pickup truck yard..to installed this one of a kind seal. Shoulda took a picture of it before dropping on.
