I looked at some gliders...and they cost about the same as a new truck. I am going to do a more in depth look at a glider because I do not want to deal with all the emmisions problems people have been experiancing.

Basically the emmisions problems people have been having is feast or famine...its either they have a ton of issues...or none at all. I do not plan on running to CA. Banning plastic bags....along with the other insane anti truck attitudes have severly jaded me against running in CA. Any way back to my point...I am going to look at a glider pretty close. The OOIDA did not have much to say on the topic other than many real O/O are going to gliders.

To Fleece purchase people....you are not owner operators. The truck is not yours despite the fantasy you create in your head. You are a Lease Operator.

PS: If your name is not on the title you are not an owner operator. You do not own the truck and you cant take it where you want. Not meant to be an insult in any way....just the truth.

MOGLAR - they get it man, I owe $100,000 on my mortgage and until I give the Bank that sum, I am lease purchasing my home, im cool with that. And its worked out well too. Fitzgerald Gliders in Tenn Warentees thiers bumper to bumper 300,000 mi just like any Manufacturer. check out the website, these things are better than new. 20% less than OEM. 150,000 unit is $120,000. that's significant. If I were a Carrier, I would lease them on because it would give my O/O's a real advantage. Some Carriers their whole fleet are Gliders.

I am considering a glider. HOWEVER....I have been hearing around the campfire that the state of ILL might adopt some of the emission standards like CA has now. This means trucks that use DEF. I am endeavoring to run this down. Perhaps an email to the OOIDA is in order.

What happened to OP? been awhile..... Hope he is just to busy to post, hate to see anybody pack it in, after all guys like IP have been at it awhile and prove that even if the numbers aren't so attractive, it can be done. Moglar, The Gliders have pre emission engines so I would think they would be grandfathered should states all of the sudden start adopting exhaust standards. You cant overnight, make thousands of trucks suddenly ileagle. The shortage would become devastating. California? who cares.

Everything is going good. I've been with Prime for 11 months now. My 11 month MPG average is 8.4! I am trending to make about $65k this year. I've had no mechanical issues at all, and certainly no complaints about Prime either. This has been a wonderful experience.

Are you solo, team, traning? Not trying to put your accomplishments down. You appear to be doing very well. Just would like to know how you did this so others that are looking to lease as you did know what to expect. Also, be very aware that next years breakdowns and maintenance can cut your profits in half, or more. I hope you have been saving for this. It always seems when things are looking the best is when the crap hits the fan as far as when expenses hit.

I hope you have made enough to pay off everything you owe and have money in the bank. This is a very hard job, so people should make money accordingly. I hope you keep doing well.

Atta boy BB, I like how you are averaging things out, and not focusing on this or next or last month. This really is a roller coaster ride. When your up, you gotta prepare for the downs. So your mindset is really in the right place. You should be one of the success stories. Keep us informed.
