I figured I would put in a post to cover my adventures into trucking. Bit of background first... I am a 31 year old veteran of the US Air Force. Was military police my entire career and when I got out I really did not want to be a cop (although I love driving around with pretty blue lights). Took some odd jobs to make money, most didn't last more than a month or two (except one lasted 6 months and the other lasted 4). I applied for Newberry College and Liberty University, got accepted to both, but cannot hold out until the VA starts paying me, so I decided to do Liberty Online and go into trucking.
I put out a BUNCH of applications with Prime, CRST, Maverick, TMC, Swift (and Swift Refrig), Knight, COMCAR, CR England, and US Xpress. So far, I have heard back from Prime, COMCAR, and CRST. I started the process with Prime, and was supposed to hear something Friday, although due to comms error I couldn't remember who was supposed to call who, so I will call the recruiter tomorrow. That's all so far!
My route to trucking

Welcome sir. Navy veteran myself. I got out of the Navy in 95 and got into law enforcement. To be honest, I hated it for probably 10 of my 15 years. Divorced in 10, resigned in '11 and basically floundered until this last week. Started Roadmaster trucking school here in Tampa last week. Have two weeks to go and a conditional offer of employment with Covenant Transport. Im hoping career number two will be it for me. Ultimate goal is to get to the northwest and get some of this money in the fracking business.

I been divorced 2x lost my clearance also (finances)...

Thank you for your service. Ex AF here as well. I am looking forward to hearing about your journey, as its one I hope to take in the very near future.

Navy Vet here, got out in 04, if you still have access to the GI BIll, the process is pretty quick to get funding. I got my funding within a week, and I Signed on with TMC. Been running solo with them since August and love it. If you are still interested in TMC, try calling them up and speak with Brad, Jaime or Gus. Those are the recruiters that are best to work with. Brad was Army and is a hoot.

Well, thing is, I am using the GI Bill to go to college, so I can't use it at two different spots

You could always take a break from school to go to trucking school, get it paid for then start back up in college. Thats what I did

Comcar is good in their CTL Transportation division; tankers.
Millis Transfer is good and has a school in NC. -
Welcome brother, Army here from 06-13. Wish you the best man. If you have any questions about Knights training program, shoot me a message. I am going through it now myself. Figured I would save my GI bill and go through Knight since they have a no contract policy for their school. Good luck with everything.

I applied for knight as well. There's a comcar subsidiary in Lexington near me. I just got accepted to both schools about 2 weeks ago but I can't wait until the VA kicks in in February
