Did you drive heavy equipment while on the military? They pass a law that veterans can wave the dmv test and get their cdl without road testing, only written tests. Good luck!

I'm almost done (I hope, lol) with my CDL school at the moment. I'm using Post 9/11 G.I. Bill to pay for it. I used my first two years of entitlement to finish off my bachelors degree. I decided some time ago that I had no interest in getting a masters, so using a couple months of entitlement to get my CDL was a no brainer for me. I'll likely wipe out my last ~9-10 months of entitlement by taking advantage of the VA approved vocational training (assuming I decide to go with a company that has an approved VA vocational program). If you're SURE that you have no interest in going back to school to get a bachelors degree...I say use your entitlement for CDL school.

My $.02 on the "company" CDL schools (coming from a newbie)...they'd be a great option for someone that already has an idea that they want to work for company 'x' . They (from what I'm seeing) require a 6-12 month commitment, but considering what they're doing for you (getting you your CDL and training you how their company wants you to operate)...I don't think that would be a bad deal. Good luck.

Not all companies require a contract. I am here going through Knight Transportation's Squire program (CDL School) and it is a great option. No contract, internally financed tuition at 0%interest and they pay you through the entire training period. So not all schools are bad. If I decided to leave Knight I need to pay off the balance owed or assure that I have a payment arrangement set up with them.

It was not my specialty, but I did have a HMMWV license. I didn't use it outside of the course though. So it most likely would not apply to me. In fact, I would prefer to get the training! lol

I had a Humvee license and at one point had bus, but didn't drive those very regularly
