Another hint about the Espar. At least once a year you should do this.
Go to Wal-Mart and buy a bottle of kerosene in the lamp section. Go to Home Depot or anywhere and buy like 4' of rubber hose. Pull the rubber hose off your Espar pump and put the hose you bought on and into the bottle of kerosene. Set your temp as high as it will go on the Espar. This puts it in boost mode.
Do this in a paved parking lot and do it at night. If your Espar is carboned up you'll get a light show with the sparks.
Kerosene burns much hotter and cleaner then diesel. Many companies have a 50 gallon tank of kerosene mounted on the truck just to run the Espar.

I've heard the kerosene trick. I've also read to run it once a month all year round.
-
You can do it as much as you want or totally off kerosene. The biggest problem with the Espar is carbon in the combustion chamber and glow plug. The kerosene will clean that right up.
-
I know k&b runs there apu units entirely off kerosene.
-
Two benefits of running kerosene. Keeps unit clean and is cheaper to run because it burns hotter so less fuel required to maintain temp. The Challenger and mattbnr Thank this.

Learned something new today. Will all apu units run off kerosene???
KH -
NO!!!! APU's have pistons and run by compression and combustion. Kerosene is too much for them. An espar is pretty much just a flame like the burner in a home heating furnace.spectacle13 and The Challenger Thank this.

I hope everyone had a great holiday. I'm back at it, gotta love Mondays.
milskired Thanks this. -
I believe another name for kerosene is 'diesel #1'
-
I almost accidentally put #1 in the other day. Luckily I seen the "illegal to use in on road vehicles" before I did.
