My ex performed surgery on my wallet, as a result, I am 100 pounds lighter.

But in YOUR case, no, I watch what I eat, and get a lot of walking. Good luck to you.

I had gastric bypass a few years ago. weighed 405 lbs day of surgery. Now weigh 230 lbs. Got down 205 best weight. I would recommend it to anyone. Had high BP, sleep apnea, diabetic. everything hurt. Couldn't walk 100 ft without being out of breath. All gone now. I have gained a little and need to get back to exercise. Wish you best of luck. Still takes willpower to eat the right food and right amount!!

With by-pass surgery, doesn't one have to eat more times a day?

I had gastric bypass surgery almost 3 years ago. One of the best decisions I ever made. As ChopperJim said, it isn't a magic bullet by any means. Just one more really good tool in the toolbox. You'll STILL have to watch what you eat (even MORE so now in fact). Congrats on your decision & good luck.

Make sure the doc is good. My old trainer in highschool once was a very big boy (pushing 500#, easy) had his gastric bypass and had a host of other issues he never had, but was just a spry 240#. Once you get it follow the instructions given 100%, otherwise problems WILL pop up. Best of luck anyway!

I hope you have given this a lot of thought and consideration. Unfortunately, it does not work for EVERYONE. For people who are willing to stick to a strict diet and exercise regimen, I guess it may help. Some. But if you are able to stick to that regimen, I think you are better losing the weight that way.

And if you are NOT going to be able to stick to a diet and exercise regimen, then this surgery is definitely NOT FOR YOU! I've got a daughter that had gastric bypass surgery, (or whatever the hell it's called.) She was counseled from the get-go, by her various doctors, her mother, her step dad, and myself, about what she would need to do to keep healthy if she had the surgery.

She had the surgery, and has ignored all the advice. McDonalds, and Denny's, candy, junk food, etc. She is sicker than a dog, (and, I'm having to say it, dumber than a rock.)

This is a major life changing event you are undertaking here, and it should not be done without a whole lot of thought and consideration.

Good luck to you, which ever way you go. But if you are having any doubts, and apparently you are, or you wouldn't have posted your question, call off, or at least postpone this surgery!

Whatever works for you then go for it. But I have a hard time how anyone can balloon up to 400 plus pounds. I freak out if I gain 5 lbs.
nutrition is an great and interesting topic that we should all learn about.
As we know, obesity and diabetes is out of control and it's all down to poor nutrition decisions.
Sure you can blame it on all kinds of things including genetics etc etc, but at the end of the day, it's what you put in your mouth that's the deciding factor.
We can all make excuses why we have gained weight, so it takes discipline to retain the status quo, especially as we get older.
I would surmise that the surgeon would discuss the risks and perhaps suggest changing the way you eat. It would also be smart to have it reversed in the future if you can get down to an ideal weight.
I'm sure it can with certain methods like the band.
Any quick fix where you're messing with the normal bodily functions will have it's repercussions.
    good luck.

Hi zaptear, I've known several people that did that, some success, some not so much. Like Big Don sez, it's not a new lease on life to shovel all the junk into your body again. So moderation is the key. Keep some air freshener nearby, as my ex-gf's sister had that done, and I didn't even recognize her, but she said, after the surgery, the gas (and impending stench) was almost overwhelming.:biggrin_25524:
