The very first thing new drivers have to learn is companies le thru there teeth to get you to do what they want.
Second I dont care if it cost them extra to repower the load. I care about me, running legal, having time to eat and shower, without being rushed. I will do anything in my power to deliver the load on time if I can do it legal and get to somewhere to park if Im close on hours.
I operate by the same rules they do, Lieing to them whom lie to me is more than ok, If Im going to Costco in Mira Loma CA from Marshalltown IA when Im in say Vegas I know where I sit as far as my delivery time. If I need to I will adjust my schdule there, 5 hours out.
Part of planning my hours is taking in to account of available time 5 hours away.
I prefer to start my 10 hours off at Farmer Boys stand down the street taking into account that they will take me at 800 and keep me till about noon,, So I actually leave the receiver at the end of my 10 off.

Again lol you've missed the point! The POINT was a driver was in a situation already and was looking for solutions to choose from. Obviously trip planning is important. I agree with you! If you fear the LEO, by all means don't PC.

I'm a rookie at this...but I would think the thing to do is leave the property after delivery. If I'm not mistaken and you have E-logs there's a certain distance before the truck logs you back on as driving. If you can get off the property before that distance...I would park and cop some Z's (if I have a sleeper).
If my company has a problem with that...that tells me what's most important to them. -
I spoke with our logs Department today. They said that safe haven was for everyone. That we were allowed to drive over hours of service if the shipper or receiver would not allow us to stay. That we were only allowed to drive to the first safe haven we could find.

Ask them for chapter and verse in the little green book where that is written so you can show that to LEO when he's writing you up OOS for operating outside the 14 hour window.TruckingSurveyor Thanks this.

thats what i would do
why should anyone be forced to spend 10hrs on site? because of some stupid HOS rules that do not take into consideration we are human? we are not robots and drivers need to let folks know what they will and will not stand forEbola Guy Thanks this. -

It's not there. Safe Haven rule is for certain kinds of Hazmat loads. It has nothing to do with driving out of a customer with no hours available.TruckingSurveyor Thanks this. -
Your absolutely right, now they are going to tell you that you missed the point.
The only advise I can give is if your out of hours do not drive. The rules about PC or driving home while unladen off duty do not preclude you from the orginal 11 or 70 hour rules that state very clearly do not drive over 11 or 70 period, there is absolutely nothing that authorizes a driver to move a commercial vehicle fi they are out of hours.
If your are out of hours pull out of the customer and park at the first available space, Take your 10 off. If your out of hours and pulled over you are going to be sited and put out of service. If a city cop or a CHP do not like where you are parked under there direction is the only time you can move that truck over hours. Does not matter what your company tells you. Out of hours equal do not drive , period.Last edited: Jan 21, 2015
