So don't go into AZ and CA unless you get enough going in. Otherwise you are just adding to the problem.

I'm almost to the point of parking in the Midwest and flying in for home time...

I do that unless I can prebook a good one back across.
I use Allegiant Air they don't go in an out everywhere but you don't have to book weeks in advance for a decent roundtrip and for an xtra 14 bucks you can purchase tripflex. You can change your flight up to 24hrs Pryor. They're adding Indianapolis Airport next month.

Yep, got a good rate going in. No way anyone should go into that area for cheap.

I feel your pain. Called on a 3 drop load going to TX out of Cali. Guy starts off telling me it's a minimum of 4 hours to load and then tells me $2100 on 1522 miles. I laughed at him and he hung up on me. I understand freight is slow and fuel is down but that is just unethical. I can't believe the brokers rates have gone that low. I think they are trying to save up,for that new BMW this month.

Double Yellow is right though. I got a decent rate coming out but I'm still not going to run that cheap out. Sets a bad precedent. I'll just go elsewhere and work my way back. Problem is rates are kinda crappy everywhere right now.

Its just slow in the SW this time of year. I get a daily email load blast from a phoenix-based refeer broker and they've gone from listing 40 loads/day to 2.

As for it being bad everywhere, the rewards are definitely there if you're willing to chase storms into the NE

if you're family is starving and you have bills to pay do you a) go work at McDonalds temprarily till you get something bigger and better. the pay is laughable but your family will starve or b) sit back on the couch and do nothing and complain how your family is starving?

if they pay MORE for freight then they'll have to pass the cost on to their customers

and do I need to explain why thats bad?

...because the customer will just roll over for YOU

if you walk in and say "i'll do this on MY terms" they'll ask you to leave. they are in charge, NOT you
