From my experience with my 2008s when I had a issue that required to go to the dealership unless you were on the road out of town your truck sits at the shop for a week before they even pull it in to look at it, not sure why things change when you're out on the road but things are very different it took Stewart and Stevens two weeks to even pull the hood up on my last truck one time. Warranty work most dealers don't like to do so you're put off and put off and put off longer meanwhile that note on that new truck is still due every month.
Ive owned Detroits cummins and cats when I decided to purchase a new truck the first guy that I talked to was my mechanic because he is obviously my go to guy, when I have an issue that I can't repair on my own the truck close to him and in most cases I can have my truck back with me in two days where from my past experience the dealerships would take two weeks also he charges $60/hour not $100+ like most dealerships do.

It's all about organization and how you manage your business. I am parking my truck here and Cali today after my delivery and I'm flying home. The trip is also tax deductible, i gotta go to my local bank and talk personally to the janitor.
Btw my ticket is $145, round trip. Now I know the truck sits at dealers whether it's 2015 or 1995, it is part of the job, with a truck under warranty after you lose revenue for those days you won't pay a dime to get it fixed.
Maybe on the 1995 you won't pay either..? I'm still not following that reality -
This discussion about new truck vs old truck. I know the pre emissions come into play. When I bought my first new truck, I paid $86,000 for it. I remember the "old timers" telling me it was a dumb thing to do. They had only paid 40-45 for theirs.
I will keep my old 2003 pete. But the industry needs new young blood that will take a chance, work hard and buy that new equipment.
Ever since I've been trucking, many many people have gone broke. Many will in the future. My hats off to this generation of owner operators. It wont be easy, but in 25-30 years some of you will still be around trying to give advice to the young ones.
being leased to Mercer gives these new guys an advantageOONewbie Thanks this. -
I agree mercer is the best of the o/o lease companies. New vrs. Old truck boils down to how much you want to work and how good your freight base is. Once a year I get the new truck bug but for now I'll stick to the one I know.
