It's you, not them. And I never had that problem as I know how to perform due diligence. Hopefully you've now learned.

So, everyone wants that "perfect" driving job. Fast truck, plenty of miles, honest management, 5 days at the house, $1500/week paychecks, consistent of course, You forgot to mention nightly turndown service with back rub and breakfast in bed, or sleeper ! It sounds like someone is getting the "rude awakening" that so many drivers get in this biz. I want this, I want that, I don't want NYC, I don't want to chain up, I don't want to touch the freight, I want good food at the truck stop, I don't want to do anything but drive the highways.

Used to get that at the Petro's from the Oriental Massage Parlors they had on-site. They shut them all down when they figured out what was going on.CargoWahgo Thanks this.

thank you for the good advice from some of you.I guess I should have known better then to vent in the forums of this website. But let me make a couple things clear. I am NOT a job hopper. And technically I haven't even went from one to the other, I just change divisions in the same company.I don't presume to think I know everything about trucking, I don't well aware that I am still green at this. However I dunno I'm pretty good at my jobso I can say I am NOT being starved off the truck or left to sit at a truck stop in hopes that I will quit so they don't have to fire me. I have an excellent service record, and I Drive my ### off. I know how to work my clockand, I take good care of the equipment, and most of all I'm safe.all the things I am asking for or what was promised to me going in, including the 70 mile an hour truck.and yes a 70 mile an hour truck would be nice but it's not a deal breakerbecause I can still make money with a 65 mile an hour truck.so just like the CB the negative commentsand opinions should be expected. but here's the deal, this is only my 2nd February working in this industry and my first was not slow. so after reading the replys (good and bad) I've decided I will stick it out and see what happens. truth be told, besides it being side and not making the paychecks I would like to be making right now, this decision is actually pretty great. I deal with the same group of people in the office all the time and I don't want to give that up.so once again thanks for all the advice!!

I wouldn't recommend a local job, I tried that kick several years ago, you usually get paid hourly and do all kinds of jobs. Then when things slow down you'll be a plumber, forklift, bobcat, front end loader, mechanic or backhoe operator for the same hourly pay. Usually getting a week hold back on these jobs, and if you hire on wrong you could work 2 weeks for a 1 day Check then get to wait another 2 weeks for your full check. I worked for a big local carrier and it was nothing for them to work you 110 +or- hours/week. I had more hometime being a regional flatbedder often getting in late friday or early saturday and leaving back out sunday around noon then I ever did working local. You'd often get up at 5 in morning to start around 6 AM and work til 9 or 10PM to start your day over again Monday-Sunday and there being only 168 hours in a week, you'd get a decent check but for the hours you put in even with time and half is not worth it.
As for the comment about the recruiters/employers lying to you to get you onboard, that is their job, to "sale" you on to what they're offering often making just about anything smelling like a rose, You have to ask the right questions, and know that not every week is going to be a great $1000 week.
The companies are on the "share the wealth" program that they have to keep everyone making a little and happy and during this time of year that is very difficult, freight often slows during the winter months, hang in there and see if it picks up in the upcoming months when the weather breaks.Last edited: Feb 19, 2015
