IDK, I just think there are easier trucking jobs out there. In all my years, I never wanted to do that, schleping some POS dolly in the dark or pouring rain, ( or worse, snow and ice) getting out 5 times to line everything up, and not really getting paid anymore to do that. I guess it's so weird for me to think about doing that, when for 35 years, I backed under a wagon, hooked up the lines, cranked the legs up, kicked the tires, and took off. She can do what she wants, but it always just seemed like a major hassle to me.
That depends on your definition of easy in this case.

How dare you trick me with this title.
Ever see women hooking up...
But to answer yes. There's a woman that runs pups out of the Birmingham dollar general and that's all she does. Pud job. Totally jelly.truckon and freightwipper Thank this. -
A dolly weighs aprox 3200 lbs,im 6'3'' 200 + and in the snow and ice it It can be a PITA.Sometimes alot of cursing and aggravation. You need to get in a groove and always do a tug test and visually inspect each 5th wheel,Always.Dolly maitinance is practially non existant and they do get beat up pretty bad. Also doubles equal double the probs,2 traiers and all that.If I have a prob ill ask for help and vice versa. Its not bad once you get used to it.Just make sure your tractor has a pintle hook or your gonna have to back up the dolly hooked to your lead.
jungledrums Thanks this. -

Come on driver your getting soft in your old age. Truck driving is supposed to be dirty hard work where we drip 2 cups of sweat out before breakfast.
Tell you what used to spook me. Doing bobtail in the snow and ice in pre 80's Pete, autocar or white commode. I never could get that perfect balance of brake adjustment that prevented the tandems from being the lead part of the truck when I stopped.
I drove for sailboat before fed ex bought them out. We ran hard in our trucks and never had the issues that fed ex has with staying upright.201 Thanks this. -
Wife and I did doubles at R&L Carriers. My wife knew how to hook up the doubles but I would do it for her. That stuff can sometimes be a dirty job. I like keeping my wife clean and pretty. She would cheer me on but most of the time tell me to "hurry the #### up !" LOL
LoneCowboy, truckon, ritchie lee and 1 other person Thank this. -

My friend decided against fedex, but she got us to looking at it, and we hired on with a fedex ground contractor 3 months ago. We liked the nice equipment, good benefits, the dedicated run that allows 3 days at home every week. We were tired of being OTR for weeks at a time without seeing home.
I can hook up doubles by myself but most times me and hubby hook them up together, got a good little routine down.
I was nervous about pulling doubles, but found out that it's fun, I really like it.Last edited: Aug 10, 2015
