that is the thing...sometimes you gotta let up and let the selfish drivers merge. I would rather do that or speed up than change lanes abruptly. Lane changes are big accident issue as we all know.

well, I think this one is over....and it is pretty clear what happen
op was in right lane cruising
Prime came on to merge
op seen prime coming on and moved into center lane (looking at video, op should have slowed down as it was clear that prime had plenty of room to merge) thus cutting off martin to slow him down.
martin got upset goes to pass and figures since op cut him off he will cut off op and slam on brakes....
This whole thing could have been avoided if op would have slowed down just a little as it was clear that prime had room....and thinking he was doing the courtesy thing by moving over to center lane, well martin didn't think that was too polite.
Class is dismissed I hope we all learned something today.....please review the videos as there will be a test on tuesday.....see you all in class next week.

In my almost 23 years out here I don't ever recall hearing about a driver cited for moving over for merging traffic. There is no such law that says you must not move over....you are legally allowed to change lanes to give others the right of way for that given lane and allow for the free flow of traffic...quoting laws that hypeathetically could be used to possibly cause a law enforcement officer to write a citation is the typical excuse of the new breed of drivers for discourtious driving....Lowa...PM me your trucking company name and truck number...I'll be sure to use your excuse when I maintain my lane when I see you getting on the interstate.

while that may be possible. it was 20 seconds after the OP moved over and was occupying the lane, before Marten ends up alongside of him. It doesn't seem like he cut him off that bad. If anyone got cut off, it was the white van, and that person didn't seem pissed. I don't think the Marten driver even realized he cut his lane change that short. He just acted like a jerk and brake checked after the horn and high beams.

maybe but we don't know how heavy a load he has on....I know if I am ripping up the road with 70-80k on and a truck like ops got in my lane it would take me a good 1-2 mins in order for me to get rocking again, and in most cases have ended up going back to the right lane in order to regain my speed in order to go around the guy that originally moved in my lane.
and the bold part is precisely why and how most accidents do and have happened. -
what does failure to maintain a lane of travel even have to do with someone safely moving over to allow someone to merge?
if the Marten guy rear ends the OP, the Marten guy gets cited for following to closely, and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. -
(1) A vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practicable entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from such lane until the driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made with safety;

Use your brake. Adjust your speed.
Tell me how my 17 years experience of staring out the windshield makes me "new breed", please do. If you can't possibly figure out how to drive without your cruise control, get off the highway!Criminey Jade, T_TRUCKERâ¢, Lowa3468 and 1 other person Thank this.
