Updated : decided bad idea. Too many drivers having cramp up left leg from double clutching. Maybe that's why they are going automatic, drivers knees are going out

Does anyone really still use a clutch when shifting? Only time you really need it is at a complete stop
ghostdog, Mr.X, damonarnold816 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've seen Werner wants to go automatic. That's the day I'll be putting my hammer down and going home.

I had to move an intermodal tractor blocking my relay at Kostner z few months back. I steeped on that clutch and thought "holy moley this takes work, glad I've got the hydraulics now".
I still scared of backing the automatics because of trying to back the automatics back in CDL. I know it's different now but I still bear the emotional scars and those cones were never the same afterwards.
Wondering how much of the fuel economy is because it has 12 forward gears instead of 10? -
It was tough going back to the regular linkage-style clutch on this KW from the hydraulic clutches I had gotten used to in newer truck. The first couple times after backing a trailer into a tight hole my leg felt like it was going to fall off lol. Took a good while for my leg to get used to it.91B20H8 Thanks this.

In my day we had to walk fifteen miles through the snow to get to school, uphill both ways! And we didn't complain, no sir, we were happy, and we got a dime a year to work 17 hours a day in the mines, one cent an hour, but did we complain? NO!
We were satisfied, dam-mit, because there was a depression going on, and we didn't dare complain when dad beat us, because it built character#and we respected him for it, not like these days where they put automatic transmissions in tractors because they are fuel efficient and have lower overall maintenance cost.
Get off my lawn!mosstrap, striker, wyldhorses and 6 others Thank this. -
I drive one of the 2015 Freightliner Cascadia Evo with an automatic. We have 67k miles on it since January and have been averaging 7.9 mpg all loads and all sort of weather conditions. I also wonder about losing shifting skills but overall love the auto. Makes life easier. As far as all the newbies starting with those I don't see an issue with it. It is the future whether old timers accept it or not.
irishlad Thanks this. -
Other than maybe a road test did they ever?
-
Red lights, backing the toughest one, my road test I didn't use the clutch.
