Last thought on the knife thing. Most people don't know what a sharp knife is.
If you have slack time (and who in trucking doesn't?!) hold the blade at roughly 20-25 degrees to the surface. Gentle strokes one on each side. The top of a window works. Try it! What have you got to lose?
