There is nothing wrong with paying to have work done, if it's done right. I use a shop for all the really heavy or really dirty work. I had them do the air compressor and drier not too long ago. Labor was like $160. Well worth it.
The journey begins - purchased a truck.

As ironically as it could possibly be, about 200 miles out of the shop door, the Jakes started sounding REALLY loud all of a sudden.
Naturally, I pulled into the nearest packed truck stop, and made several rounds, gunning it and jaking it - just to confirm there was an issue. I sound tested it against the air horns to be sure.
Broken flex pipe, in front of the muffler.
Quality diesel, opposite the Petro, x86 off I65 - $48 labor plus parts, total $123. Real nice folks, and busy too. Shop rate is $80/hour.
Soup and salad, bed, then off to work. -
A few turns burning the jakes under protest at the truck stop, I'm sure a few suggestive adjectives were grumbled in your direction Blair! But hey, gotta make sure, right!
Good to know it was something minor and you found a good shop too!stwik and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Didn't you just convert to weed burner? Did they reuse that flex section?
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
I must be getting some bad flex lately myself replaced every piece at least twice in the last year.blairandgretchen Thanks this.
-
How are your motor and transmission mounts?blairandgretchen Thanks this.
-
Motor mounts seem fine tranny just hangs on a piece of steel that broke when tranny did few months ago put in a thicker piece might be to stiff.blairandgretchen Thanks this.
-
We did the conversion and reused the existing - lesson learned!double yellow and tsavory Thank this.
-
Considered the same thing - average lifespan of mounts, anybody? I feel a lag in the drive train, and still chasing a vibration issue.
-
I would think about 750,000mls that seems when rubber fuel lines and a lot of bushings give out or are wore out. Have you changed your harmonic balancer yet? That seems to be one of those items that always gets overlooked as well.tsavory, blairandgretchen and dannythetrucker Thank this.
