On Friday, May 8...I was driving into some bad weather, but I never would have imagined it would spawn a tornado. It got to the point where I couldn't see a thing due to heavy rain and at that point, I was already at a crawl with the hazards on. Nearly stopped, the wind went from minor/moderate to hitting the truck like nothing I've ever felt. It wasn't gradual at all...it was all at once. Next thing I know, I'm looking out the drivers side window as I watch the pavement get closer. The winds knocked my trailers tail into the grassy median while the drivers steer was centered in the right lane. The PD said the winds were 80mph which is equivelant to an F1 tornado. I've calmed down a bit, but was pretty shaken up after it happened. The company says there was nothing I could do(875lbs in an otherwise empty trailer), but I can't help but feel like I should have done something different. I was heading north, and the weather was moving south, so it very well may have got me even if I stopped well south of it. I don't know, but this has left me feeling pretty bad about myself and I can't help but wondering what would have happened if I'd done something different.
This is more of a vent than anything, but I'd like to hear from those who have been in a situation like this. What happened and how did you feel about it afterwords? Being blown over while being pretty much stationary is something I never would have imagined happening to me...but it did.

Important thing is you arent hurt, the truck and trailer can be fixed/replaced.
Puppage, JRTBud87 and Knucklehead619 Thank this. -
I understand your 2nd guessing and Monday morning quarterbacking this thing all over again, thats normal, when mother nature comes she comes, aint a thing MAN can do about it,hell you could of got off at a earlier exit, did a u turn and went northeast, northwest, southeast or southwest and could of still ran in to it,point is none of that matters no one can ACTUALLY PREDICT WEATHER,perhaps if you had a cb with the weather alert on it,mines automatically comes on with a buzzer to get your attention about breaking weather news whenever im in a bad area, or radio,or gps with the weather scan, look at the glass half full instead of half empty,Do you even realize how many people wish they were alive to tell there story, whether you realize it or not, this story is a testimony for many, many others who view this thread and next time they come across this type of weather they will second guess,or maybe contact dispatch and tell them the load is gonna be a little late,if dispatch dont understand that tell em they can have they truck, your life is way more important than some shrink wrapped or strapped down freight.Just be glad it wasnt worser, you could of flip over in a 5 or 6 feet pool of water, ive seen that happen as well, count your blessings, dont know if your the religous type, but if you are get down, and thank GOD,you are here to tell your story and see your family and friends again, the company can always replace that truck and freight, but they cant replace your life,Best of luck to you Bro,B safe out there

longbedGTs Thanks this. -
Glad to read you are fine. Like others have posted. Truck and trailer can be fixed or replaced..
Do you have dash cam video showing the flip?
I know I'm warpedLong FLD Thanks this. -
You probably ran into straight line winds than a tornado and yes they can sneak up on you. The only thing you can do is be like a cow and put your tail to the wind. It protects your windshield.

wow, glad your physically alright. i've been fighting storms in central texas for the last few nights, it's ugly. it's like texas is trying to make up 20 years of drought in 2 weeks.

It is the WOULD "VE / COULD>VE syndrome but as long as you came out of it unharmed you can plan on how to handle it next time and with these types of storms you never know the outcome , in the past people who sought supposedly safe shelter have ended up dead while others out in the wide open survived

This happen to me a few years ago but I was in my pov. On i94 heading east and it just downpour. Everybody slow to a crawl and sudden a huge gust of wind came rolling in with rain and debris, suddenly nobody can see an inch in front of them so everybody on that highway just dead stop. Back then I had bad brakes in my suv and the wind was PUSHING my car to the median. I try inching toward a tanker so it can block the wind and debris hitting my car, but it too was getting push in the median. After a minute it stop raining and clam down. cars were scatter all over the road and a van tractor trailer on its side in front of me. Never been in a tornado but it sure felt like I was
