Well I can say with certainty that my region is not better paying than most, I live in the poorest region of Canada, an area where a class 1 license means nothing since there is so much farming around that everyone has one. Unemployment is high, seasonal employment is throug the roof which both drives down the cost of labour. LTL jobs pay minimum wage plus a buck here, so they are hiring truck drivers at $12-13 an hour every day.
I STILL earned $60,000+ at a company where the local and LTL guys make $32k back in 2011 because I was willing to travel overnight, be gone from home a few days at a time and leave the region to make money. I wasn't making .40/mi either, but Canadian HOS are a lot more flexible and running 3600/mi/week consistently isn't unreasonable. -

OK, this is the most simple equation you can ever solve! You drive, you get paid!! If you drive a class 8 tractor, you will need 6 to 8 weeks away from Mommy to make any money! Let's take a cheesy place that don't pay much. Okay..2500 miles per week..if you are gone, 3 weeks, and home one 1 week, your income to spend ratio is very high, But 6 weeks out and 1 week home..due the math. Every company will pay you, but how many miles will they give you. The big guys promise they will give you 3 weeks good and 1 week at home. 7500 miles a month x .40! WOW $3000 Welfare pays about the same. I know, long winded answer, but being upset at the industry that rips us off, I can and yes I am not in that boat cause I did the math. Try'in to help you guys!!

I drive for Lessors Inc out of Minnesota. Now $2200 was because conditions were perfect for it. But usually I make $1200 or better.
