First Denzel is no longer with either company.
Equipment, with Magnum.. Not impressed from what I have seen.
Mag website sux, looks like a 5th grader designed it.
No mention of Average miles on loads. I kinda like the high average here.
Unless something has changed neither Holland nor GPT Hires Students. (that's a positive in my book)
I can go to Prime and make more CPM also.
Great Plains Transport - A company that cares about drivers... NO BS.

I guess we all should assume you've met Denzel face to face and you didn't like what you heard. Note to self "Make sure your breath is always minty fresh"
SISYPHUS and Anonymousproxy Thank this. -
No, it wasn't just because of Denzil. He was the point of contact at the time as recruiter, he was cool with me and straight up, he laid out everything about the company right up front and didn't bs me, and he has since retired, and I'm no snake oil salesman. I chose this company because of its small, family atmosphere, I don't have to go through 4 different departments because of atmosphere, and unlike magnum, I don't have to mess with hazmat, and it's not a trainain't company. Plus I live in the north east, and I'm not so sure of magnum hiring in my area. The runs we have here do average 1400 or so miles, and from my experience it's mostly good, long legal runs, running all 48 states. Low turn over, and from what I've seen this company doesn't need a big huge sign on bonus to lure drivers, and your mileage pay is right up front, I don't have to worry about losing a chunk of it to an easily long bonus. As for holland, check over on that thread for that company for what they are like. Gpt may have made some changes recently, but they are starting to pay off nicely.
And btw, the 48-50 cents/mile that a lot of these other companies advertise may seem great, but don't expect a huge amount of miles from those places. -
That's why I carry those listerine tabs!!

I had lunch with Denzel, maybe his breath had issues from the shrimp scampi! Equipment wise, I prefer Volvos, but I think I would pick a Pete over a Freightshaker. I also average 2800 - 3200 miles per week @ 50cpm. As far as being a training company, we're unconventional as we have the student perform ALL the driving - the trainer is in the jumpseat simply training. We also offer a position with a company that they'll most likely stay with, so we have no claim to being a "starter" company. I guess I'm still unconvinced...

Don't know about everyone else.
But I'm not here to convince anybody of anything.
If you need convincing call a Recruiter.
<edit- added>
Give me a truck that's well maintained and oomy (not a Prime Lightweight for example) 3 years old or less with an APU.
I don't care about the name (Brand) on the front of the Truck.
Fairly common for a lot of OTR companies to replace trucks at 400-600k miles (3-4 years)
So when you take the brand out of the equation, what's left?
I was mainly referring to Trailers myself.
You're trying to make it sound like you're happy with Magnum.
Yet you come on here asking to be convinced we're better.
I don't really get the point of you posting in here ASKING to be convinced.
If you're happy there, stay, I think most of use are happy with GPT or Holland.
If something changes, I will start looking, but I will not go to any company that hires students.
Most likely my next job won't be OTR, but you never know what might happen.Last edited: Jul 27, 2015

Holland has always been on my shortlist. The equipment is nice and well maintained, the loads are good. The thing that always held me back was the pay was lower. I called Great Plains, and it sounded good (those 780 tractors sound awesome) but he was too excited to have me come on. Wasn't my scene, ya know? I don't like it when they're too anxious to get me to come over. But neither one can ever be considered a bad company, not by a long shot.

What's left is the fleet of 2015 & 16's @ Magnum. I tell ya guys what - we have a Drivers Appreciation Day coming up. I'd like to invite any of you or Hollands drivers over as my guests. We have hot dogs, brats, burgers, and an open bar! Actually the open bar is on my wish list, so scratch that...
Lightside Thanks this. -
