Do shippers require you to provide an ARB number for your reefer unit when picking up a load? Do some shippers check your year of truck or is that left up to the CARB cops?
Loading in Cali?

I've been asked for ARB number one time and the trailer I had didn't have one. And yes, it got loaded.
TAgokiddogo Thanks this. -
Ok I think I am going to take my chances and pickup a load in Cali next week. I will be running down from Oregon on i-5 going to Delano. Then across 58 to 15 and north. Do you think I'll have any problems? I just got my reefer certified and got my ARB number (did it all online). My truck is a 2000 with a 1999 engine and I don't have any of that anti-pollution junk.
I haven't been to Cali since about 2011. And only twice then. -
I don't think you'll have any problems. I know several people who go out there all the time still with older trucks. I run an older truck an I've never had any problems.gokiddogo Thanks this.

You aint gonna have a problem if you run cali occasionally. There are thousands of non compliant trucks running here.

Yeah I saw the guy who got a fine in the mail for 1,000. I don't plan to run Cali very often. Kind of in a pinch here. I am hoping to go in and out and get my dirty work done while being undetected.
Old Iron Thanks this. -
Don't sleep in rest areas in Cali and you should be ok unless their set up at scale which most scale masters aren't fond of ... They need a state patrol to pull you over or catch you when stopped .. We have guys who go their 3 times a month with older Petes knock on wood no issues yet

Been hearing the carb cops been patrolling all the packing houses out there, glad I don't run out there no more !

I got in and got out. Came in on i5 from Oregon, down to Salinas, loaded and left on 80. Went through a bunch of scales but did not see any carb activity.
I am not making California part of my business plan though. I was in a pinch and it was try this or go empty a very long way. I learned something though so it's all good.
