Hi all,
Guess little info on me, earned Class A through school...very much naive and thought I could get a local job right of the bat. 3 months and hundreds of resumes have proven me wrong...which has lead to two things...applying at Schneider, and reading site and various forums here for the past few weeks.
Talked to the recruter today, have my interview on Thursday at noon...verbal offer...etc.
If someone can help me out with a few questions I have...that would be awesome!
One, recruter said training is in Chicago...this threw me off because when I called a recruter 3 months ago, they said Green Bay. Mind you the last time I drove a truck was the day I passed my CDL exam...so to say I am green is a pretty #### good description. And I know my stick shift car and driving a school bus for the past two years don't count. So...do they do "all" the training for a rookie like me in Chicago? By all, I mean refresh what I learned months ago.
Two, I read some are able to get home for their ten living in the Chicagoland area while working at the yard...some are not. For those who are not, how many miles out from the railyard are you to not make it home? I live about 35-40 miles away. Hoping getting home is feasible for my situation, while running regional. If not...oh well.
Thanks!

Training use to be in greenbay. Now it's in chicago for intermodal. We drive about 200-300 miles out sometimes longer, and yes some people who live close will make it back home for their ten. I left this morning I got a 450ish mile run today n might back it back in chicago.
Remember chicago traffic....even if u live 40 mins away it could take 2 hours to get home so u would only have 8 hrs to rest. I live 10 miles away n it take almost a hour to go home in rush hour. Of course it depends what direction ur home isgentleroger and Just-a-badsa$$-gal Thank this. -
Thank you, much appreciated.
I live in Lake County so I probably will not make it home, especially if I do a run like you did today.
How long have you been working for schneider? -
2 years in dec. Yeah trying to head out to lake County will take about 2 hrs with that 94 contraction and usually traffic, unless u run in a way that make come home after rush hours
Just-a-badsa$$-gal Thanks this. -
I may second shift it if they offer it...guess I will have to wait until Thursday to see what my options I may have.
-
As far as I know, u can choose ur start time. U can start at 6pm or 6am or w.e u want. Tues-sat or sun-thur
Just-a-badsa$$-gal Thanks this. -
Depending how far north you live in Lake county could always set up a park location in Sturtevent, WI
Just-a-badsa$$-gal Thanks this. -
Already decided on Sun-Thurs for sure...even though I heard you dont get as much, I have two kids...
And I live a lot closer to Sturtevant WI than the rail yards. That could work too. -
I start training Sept. 8th. Game on. Maybe I will see you guys around.
