I'm not under any kind of length of term contract. They didn't train me but I decided I was going to turn the keys in and now they are saying that they are trying to charge me $200 because I didn't turn in a two weeks notice. Are they allowed to do this? They claimed the agreement was in the company policy handbook but I don't see it anywhere. Will the department of labor do anything if I report them?
Can they fine you if you quit without a two weeks notice?

i ain't never heard of that.
DOL..???
i think they only handle wage complaints, not fines..???.
did you have any locks they provided you..??
any company equipment.>??
any advance money..???? -
I'm sure you're going to get a lot of different replies towards this. But, if you signed a contract that states so then you can't do anything about it. If it doesn't state it anywhere then there is a possibility to beat that. But is it worth it?

$200 bucks is nothing if you wanna get away from a crap job.
mhyn, TripleSix, taxihacker66 and 3 others Thank this. -
They told me that I was charged specifically for not giving them a two weeks notice, not for any kind of equipment, locks or advance money. So far as their employee handbook says this was not part of their agreement, and I never signed any paperwork agreeing to it.This SHOULD matter because we are suppose to live in a free market where employee's can choose their employer.

Typical trucking..............you know that tune.
Some things never change. -
It was probably in the stack of unstapled papers where they have you sign your name about 25 times in two minutes.bottomdumpin, taxihacker66 and G.Anthony Thank this.

You mean like CRST where they produce a printed company policy and show it to you without any kind of signature or mention of on the part of the policy that you signed?Yeah I get that.
-
I would tell them that if the money is removed, then I won't feel bad about telling the whole trucking world (or our corner of it here on the forum) who they are and what they're doing, not to mention posting a facebook rant about their unethical labor practices. But that is just me, not sure you should try being a newer driver.
