Cool well i had a cummins in the previous truck. A KW660 and ill admit so far the cummins does pull better but it led me too the shop more than ever mainly for a DEF issue. Also had coolant leaks and it would just abolish my oil.

Well, the simple fact is that emissions regulations are changing faster than trucking companies can reasonably keep up with them. They are putting trucks on the market with technologies that simply are not finished, not because of greed or laziness, but because regulations are forcing them to do so, or to stop making trucks.
So we have a lot of trucks on the road today with emissions systems that have tons of problems, and land otherwise good trucks in the shop way too often. -
I figured that. Even our new trucks are breaking down.

Last company I worked for , the first 5 08 models , 3 out of the 5 had to be towed . Never made it off the lot day 1. EPA ruined CAT.
-
The 660 i had got towed twice with 48 hrs. All for the same issue.

have you heard epa released new emission standard for 2018 model trucks. (( I guess epa will stop when you will have pure O2 coming out from your muffler ((. New locomotive two cycle engines must be equipped with aftertreatment devices.

EGR causes a lot of engine issues. European makers are experimenting with EGR free engines which use the SCR system to treat the exhaust for NOX. The byproduct is that the soot in the DPF is oxidized at lower temperatures which eliminates the need for on road regeneration. Volvo does that with their SCR engines by reducing the EGR cycle.
Straight Stacks Thanks this. -
i think vary soon we can see egr free engines. All NOx will be removed by aftertreatment system chemically. I did little experiment with EPA2010 DD15 engine. I was driving the whole day with DDDL connected and I was recording engine parameters. Same thing I did with EPA07 DD15 engine. Day latter I compered records and was surprised. EGR valve was open almost always on EPA07 engine (different openings at different conditions-acceleration, idling, cruise driving,...). EGR valve was closed on DD15 engine ~ 85-90% of time ! It was wide open when truck was idling because exhaust heat of exhaust gases was not enough for oxidation, it was open when you push al the way down the pedal at uphill (dynamic acceleration). I have heard that Volvo's GHG14 engine consumes little more DEF and EGR valve activities are minimum compered to ISX and Paccar.Last edited: Sep 5, 2015

You take the EGR out of the system , the soot will drop way down ! Looks like they saw the amount of soot they (EPA) made with EGR . And now we need to filter out what we just made. Find a solution for the problem they just made ? Instead of admitting they goofed!
