Sounds reasonable. I had my dpf changed out on my 2013 DD15. Four hours labour plus parts equalled $2,800 total.
Your regen issue is probably directly caused by a lack of air pressure.
The turbo actuator is operated by air, it is required in the regen procedure.
0 air pressure to truck, help would be greatly appreciated and DPF issue

I am leaning towards that. I didn't want to throw money on 1 issue when it could been the other issue.
I will follow up with the air problem and report back here if it fixes the issue.
$2800 is a hefty bill to pay, after spending that amount did DPF issues dissapear -

Start your engine and open the hood. On the top of the air compressor is the governor (little cylinder looking thing...maybe 4 inches tall and 1.5 inches wide. There is also a little pop off valve. It will look like a bolt screwed into the side (facing the left. If you stand at your left steer, it should be staring you in the face). I sort of doubt it's the pop off valve, because even with the engine running, that pop off valve is LOUD. Loud enough to hear it from inside the truck at high idle. If it is popping off, the little rod in the middle pops out and allows air to escape, but it will be popping off every half second.
Check the air dryer to see if it's stuck open. You will hear it. Loud his. Simple fix. If it isn't allowing air through, that pop off valve at the compressor will start firing off. If air is getting through, you have another problem.
Check your air tank drains. If one of them rusted open, it will not allow air to build. Next, check the air tanks themselves. They can rust through and leave you stranded.hilliard Thanks this. -

just a quick question if there is a hole in the air tank would it make a loud hissing sound or would it be barely audible
There isn't any noticable audible air leak in the truck or in the hood, maybe be the engine is too loud. -
To do a parked regen on my rig is a button, Its named PRK RGN, All I have to do is push it and if the truck needs one (Indicator DPF Light will be lit up) then you press it and your done. My truck however will not regen unless it NEEDS it otherwise light will blink and nothing will happen. I believe this is standard across all trucks with DPF filters.
As stated before, The soot code activating then deactivating pretty much means your staying close to full all the time and the truck is popping that code before it can do a burn out. Otherwise the passive regen would never let the truck get to that point.
As for the price, To have them baked I have never done, At 400k Cummins replaced it under warranty with a revised version of the DPF (Bigger holes, less restriction, better burn) So as of yet I have not had to had one baked. Cummins recommends that every 250khilliard Thanks this. -
Is this on older trucks ? Mine is Electronic. Would figure anything with a DPF now adays (2010+) would all be electronic by now.hilliard Thanks this.

Depends on the size of the hole. You can't build are pressure, even while idling up the motor and can't hear anything...must be a good size leak.hilliard Thanks this.

That is a very good price but what exactly does he mean the guy comes and cleans it? Some of these mechanics will just blow it out with air but they really need to go into an oven. Had mine done, they quoted $2000 to clean it if it was still good, or $3500 for a new DPF if it was bad. I asked, what if it is bad? They said they still have to charge me the $2000 + $3500hilliard Thanks this.

Don't want to sound like an a&& but if you don't know what you are doing with something simple like the air system on the truck get a mechanic out there to figure it out. If you screw with it and it builds air then later down the road it loses air because of something you forget, you can cause one heck of an accident, plus messing with slack adjusters to get the brakes free isn't the right way to move the truck.

How do you know you have an air leak if you don't have air pressure to hear the leak with? Has to be on the generating of air pressure side?????
