Seems to me, if you can't make a turn with your tandems ANYWHERE, including all the way up, then maybe you shouldn't be driving a truck.

I can haul 45,500 at Cali length if it is loaded properly.

No. No nutshells.
Get the Rand atlas or another current list of State bridge law/tandem lengths and make sure you are legal for the most restrictive state through which you will be driving.
Much better to know you are legal than to hope you are, and hope the DOT is in a good mood when you meet up.

i run mine all the way forward every day all the time
no rookie
better chance the real rookie from the northeast hits a car or 3 turning some corner -
Even if it puts your tandems way over 34K?
Mikeeee -
Not a rookie then just not a very good driver. Bet you are the one leaving all kinds of scraped trailers at drop lots Cranky Yankee.

With the skirts you can get max fuel efficiency running the tandems all the way forward.
Another bad thing about running the tandems too far back with skirts is dragging the skirts on little bumps-- say backing into a dock that drops downhill, you have to wait to slide til you're already in the slot otherwise will bend the skirts real bad when the trailer breaks over the hump and starts going down the dock.Jerry12 Thanks this. -
Lol. Where did you get that hogwash? Skirts aren't even proven tech. Just about everyone making them is just slapping garbage under the trailer to get your money.
A trailer is more stable the longer it is. The more over hang you have the more crosswinds effect the truck. The less micro adjustments you make the better fuel economy you get. Also having the tandems slid up and being heavier on the trailer causes the trailer to bounce excessively which is also bad for fuel economy.Last edited: Oct 3, 2015

Riiiiiigggghhhtt. 'cause racing teams invest millions in wind tunnels to research aerodynamic manipulation all for no result.

Aero is just a marketing ploy...

Me too, then my city driver comes in at 8am and runs the truck into the landing gear on his pup trailer thusly locking the 5th wheel in place (pins wont retract), he then takes off thru the potholes in the yard making left and rights navigating his way to the gate, absolutely demolishing my fricken mudflaps more than youve ever seen in your life!!! Im talking he's twisted and bent the square-stock mudflap mounting bar into shapes ive never seen
Some of us pay the price to run 5th wheel all the way up...weight? I have this issue when running empties !! lol
He's done it 12 fricken times...The first 4 sets, I libertated off of other trucks at the phoenix terminal..The 5th time he did it, i couldnt believe it!!! WTF!!!
at 12 now, its actually funny now....a case of tailights? c'mon !!!
