    Greetings all,
Been looking around a bit and I'm am certain this question comes up often.

I am a Brand New Driver. Attending Sage in Idaho. I'm trying to figure out the right path to take to get the most out of this late in life career change. I am Married with 6 children, wife is OK with me doing a year or so of OTR to get the experience I need to try to get into something regional or local down the road. There are a lot of companies out there to choose from but it seems most offer about the same thing for New Drivers. Most of the new drivers I have met are young, first or second job, not real sure what they wanna be when they grow up. I was at my last job for 17 years, I've been managing people, young and old for over 30 years. Never had a job under 3-4 years in length. So I don't consider myself "new". My scores at Sage are nearly perfect, and my driving and backing are very good. I've had a valid drivers license for almost 40 years and have never had an accident, and only one speeding ticket, and that was over 10 years ago. Hurrying to get to work no less... Also, if it matters, I have all endorsements, except passengers.

I would like to hear from people who love what they do. I have already read enough from the ones that don't.

Who would you consider the best Company for a new driver to cut his teeth on? With longevity in that company being an option as well?

    Thanks in advance!

I drive and train for magnum logistics.... I have been with them for almost two of the five years that i have been on the road..... This is by far the best company i have driven for.... If you want to train with a company that will train you right and then make you feel welcome and take care of you like you are a family member then this is the place.... Check out www.magnumlog.com

You can jump in regional in the start. Schnieder, jb, tmc, Maverick has regional position, check their hiring area

I don't know any specific companies in your area, but I wanted to let you know you do not have to go otr. You can go local from the start, I did, 75% of the people I work with have never spent 1 day otr. If you want local apply everywhere. Go in in person. Ignore experiance requirements, some are flexable, worst they can say is no.

There is a odd thing in trucking, for the most part otr companys dont care about local experiance. And local companys dont care about otr experiance. Not a hard rule but seems common.

yea, 2 differant animals really. Driving around town making 10 to 15 stops a day in a crowded city and driving the expressway and bumping a wherehouse every few days while living in the truck and planning long trips are really very differant jobs with very differant challanges
