Hey there Moglar, sorry to bother you, but since you work for keim, i'd like to ask you some questions about them, if you'd be so kind. I drove for 7 years, partly OTR and the other part with the military, hauled van, reefer n flatbed, but the flatbed was with the military so wasnt alot to it. basic tie down, make sure nothing falls off lol. my license expired while stationed in japan, and now that im out of the military, im going through school again to regain my CDL. Keim is a company that interests me and would like to find out more about them, more so from a driver than a recuiter. Pay, home time, tarping difficulty (me being a 5'7 short fella lol) equipment, if they have those darned driver facing cams, and just overall information about working with keim. I'm looking for a good company, that pays well, treats drivers with respect, a place i can call home, as i don't wish to do the company to company jumping around bit as what often ends up happening with drivers. Thx, and i appreciate any info you have to offer. be safe
Sam

Good to hear from you. My actual road name is Lurch. But for the forums I use "Moglar" (lurch was taken lol) Anyway you will need to get your CDL back. Since you were deployed at the your CDL expired you might want to check with your issuing state. You should be able to get it back because you were deployed at the time. If not I have some ideas for you that will help. But since your in school that's good too.
Basically its a family owned flatbed company based out of Sabatha KS. I have been home every weekend that I needed to be. Tarping is not difficult. Some of the loads we pull will be pre-loaded and tarped...we just have to strap them down. There are no cameras in the trucks. However the Kenworths have a built in GPS. This is used for customer service and logistics regarding load planning. They do not spy on the drivers or hound you every step lol. However....if you go way out of route you might get a phone call
One thing to consider is that you do not see them advertising in the truck papers. That is because they don't have to. They have a pretty good retention rate. They would probably put you with a trainer for a few weeks to knock the cob webs off and let you get back into the grove of trucking.
They are very practical when it comes to trucking. There are no petty games or hidden agendas here. Nor are there people trying to feed their egos. Nor will they yell at you for walking on the grass (You other flatbedders know what trucking company I am talking about lol). What you will find is a family owned trucking company that wants you to succeed. I have never had a problem getting home. Just be sure to plan ahead and keep your dispatcher informed. Now grant it this is trucking. There might be a time or two when they cant get you home...but it is rare. If they do keep you out they do their best to get you by the house. This will be better if you live in on one of their main freight lanes (like me) lol. They give out nice fuel and safety bonuses every six months. Basically its like this.....get good fuel mileage and be mindful of your idling and you get a fuel bonus......don't tear up the equipment (or tear up someone else's property for that matter) or get any freight claims and get a really nice safety bonus. Pass a level 1 DOT inspection and get an extra $100.00 on your next check.
I have seen people shorter than 5'7 tarp and strap a load. Its not a problem. Give the recruiting dept a call at 1800 255 2450 ext 311. Tell em Lurch in #1510 told you to call.
PS. What ever your decision...I have to give you one piece of advice. Do not under ANY CIRCUMSTANCE go to a carrier that tries to get you to do a "fleece purchase (lease purchase). DONT DO IT!I suggest you give Keim a call first

Hey Lurch, looks like it's a no go for Keim. called recruiting, and he said Keim doesnt have much runnin through north carolina and that i'm too far away from the Kansas terminal to get updated with flatbed training. I'm in Winston Salem NC, was hoping could just train n run outta the jasper TN terminal as it' only bout 6 hours away, but guess not. again thx for the info n be safe out there.

@Sneakerfix just talked to a driver from keim he was saying they are now doing a percentage pay program. he wasn't sure what it would be for a new guy. Also said that about 80-85% of the loads that require tarp are already loaded and tarped driver just has to strap them down.. I found that interesting. I would assume if that is the case then they have regular loads for a particular facility to leave trailers to be loaded.. He did say they hall a lot for United gypsum and a lot of home building products.. He said he is getting 30% but has been with them almost 10 years..
