As birthday and Christmas approach I am thinking I should ask for some trucking gear so I do not have to buy it all myself. Suggested items have been Rand McNally GPS and a high quality bluetooth headset. Is there a hands-down best quality winner on the bluetooth headset? Also, I hear that dash cams are not allowed in some companies so I may hold off on that.

Interesting how you have not only ASSUMED you know my personal life situation and you respond so hostile to what you assumed to be my situation. If I were single and living with my parents it would NOT be a bad thing. If I were single and living with parents and I posted on this board for ideas on what gear to get for trucking then obviously I would be planning on supporting myself. Do you have an issue with young people just starting out? Not that it is any of your business what my situation is, I will respond so that others may see the error you made. I am married with 3 grown children, am a retired school teacher and am getting into trucking as a way to stay busy and to keep earning while I am healthy. Getting these things for Christmas and birthday means that less money is spent out of my savings instead of buying them outright and also buying Christmas / birthday gifts.FLATBED, Swedish Chef, oldtrucker66 and 7 others Thank this. -

For a Bluetooth take a look at the blue Parrott. Seems to be one of the better headsets out there for professional drivers.

Again you ASSUME. Do you know who buys me birthday and Christmas gifts? Do you know if they have to dip into savings? Do you think someone who cannot afford to give a gift like that would do it just because it was on my list? FYI - my wife is the person who would buy these things for these occasions and guess where the money comes from? OUR savings. -
Also there is a thread with some other drivers input on the best type of cold weather gloves, if you are going to be in that weather.

Haven't heard of a company that doesn't allow Dashcams.
If it's true I'm sure someone will come along shortly.
If you work for the 'right' company they will not only have Dashcams they also will have a driver facing camera.
Some even let you use the excuse of GPS Navigation built into the Qualcomm.GumboSnow Thanks this. -
It's a #### shame that the first reply to a question is a personal attack.
This forum used to be a great source of information, a place for new and experienced drivers to come together and share information, but in the last year it seems to have lost that.
Too many people answering legitimate questions with snark, insults and personal attacks.
It is easy enough to just not chime in if you can not contribute to a particular discussion, find one you can be of some assistance. There is no need to just lay into someone becuase you don't like their post.
With so little respect shown others, I wonder how much self respect some of the posters here have. -
Dashcam free companies...Crete(Shaffer, Hunt) and Poly forbid any video recording devices to be used.including dedicated dash cams. Many companies (especially the bottom feeder mega's) don't allow them in case their drivers are at fault, thus giving the other party (or parties) involved more ammuntion in court.Balakov100 and GumboSnow Thank this.
