Change of plans. Turns out they did want me to swap trucks. Swapped into another '13 with 470K... Which is 15K less than my old one had. They had nothing newer to give me. However, I was promised a brand new truck when they arrive in February. Sure hope they keep that promise.

Also got a new load assignment. Hooked up to a dry load in the yard heading for Bismarck. Delivered that today, then picked up in Mandan right after. Currently en route for 2 stops in Colorado, 1 stop in Vegas, and finals in Phoenix. Pulled into the TA in Cheyenne tonight with 1 minute on my 14.

So they moved you into another truck with 15k less miles. Why? For that small amount of mileage difference I would have kept what I had, unless it was a huge pos.
Did they force you to switch?

They cannot keep their trucks past 500k. My old one was at 485K, I'll definitely be driving over 15k by February when the brand new trucks come in.

500k is a huge threshold to breach in the used truck market. Trucks under 500k are looked at one way, trucks over 500k are looked at another way. even 505k puts the used trucks into a different market pool with probably 5-8% less value.

With me, in the early stages it's either run run run, long, long, long, little time, little time, little time then you hit a wall and it's a series of 700 mile walmart runs mile runs with 2 days on them or 900 miles and 3 days, and appointment times between stops that just aren't efficient. So, looks like I will go into my home time "well in the hole" and with an abundance of available hours unless things change real soon. Not sure if I'll be able to afford home-time if the remainder of my tour days are like the last 3.

I enjoy the "break" and getting a few hours banked, but wish they could settle me into some sort of "happy medium" instead of this feast/famine.

You should probably talk to Ruth. I've got into patterns like that and had to speak up. Of course you don't want to always be calling or they won't take you seriously eventually. Tally up your miles over the past few weeks and tell them where you're at. Coming up on home time is sometimes difficult in gauging getting you home vs trying to maximize miles. When I got pretty low on miles once I did like 3 swaps in a row in order to keep running continuously until I ran out my 70. I don't like swaps, but if you're just running and not doing the pickup or delivery you can rack some miles real quick. I only got low enough on miles once to have to do that.

And right now I think they are already starting to plan driver's locations in order to start preplanning getting people close or in a good place to get loads going to wherever home is for those going home. If you don't need to be home on a specific date you can always send a free form message saying miles is more important than getting home on a particular date. Doesn't really apply to Christmas though as they will try to get you there by Christmas Eve or earlier. Otherwise, I always say amount of time off is more important than the actual day i get there unless I have something planned which I remind as well when I really need to be there a certain day.

I like it here and hopefully the Walmart (and especially the shorter multi drop Walmarts) remain an exception rather then a rule. Indiana to Monroe, GA Walmart, then beer to Rhode Island and ice cream out to Henderson. Just need to see where we end up swapping so I can get home to Texas for several days before heading back out before Christmas.
