Yup,, Jennie-O does the air line lock at its plant in Barron, WI.
Got there the first time, and the guy asks me if i had the lock on and trailer chocked. Then he asked me where the trailer seal was.
I do LTL, I don't seal anything, unless I know before hand that I need one for a certain rcver.
The guy then said that only because it wasn't food grade material I would be taken.
But If I didn't have a seal next time, I WOULD be told to leave. Because I KNEW the rules. He didn't understand that It was a new account for us (I'd never been there before, ever) and he didn't care either.
The Birchwood Best plant in Birchwood, WI has asked me for my keys before. Showed them to her, and when she said I had to give them up, I was surprised. All the other operators never ask.
They just want to know which load I'm there to get, and how I want it loaded. -
That last part of a person in the truck... would be a NO!
Swift does not allow anyone else in the truck without being insured by them.
So that would not happen.
If Swift said to let it happen I would say no way.
No one that I don't know gets into the truck - period. End of story.
They can repower the load and set a new delivery date for all I care. -
They are a different story.
If you get to the gate you will have no choice if they want to enter and search your truck.
Best to refuse the load in the first place, to avoid the problem.
I can't blame the military, however, for imposing some security measures. They are always a prime target.
And an incoming truck would be just the ticket.
But a shipper/receiver that wants to get in the cab to search or sit?
No way! -
And I've delivered to a base near San Diego a couple times with no searches as well.
But, they can if they wish to. And there is nothing we can do to stop it.
We can't simply say no and back away from the gate.
That would be the reddest flag for them to surround you and tear everything apart.
As it should be, with a military base. -
Military bases are an exception. Fine... Search the truck or even have a guard ride-along. I knew that going to get the load.
But civilian shippers and receivers? NO. You are not entering my truck. Period. F-Off. You want my keys? NO. Cancel or refuse the load for all I care, nobody is getting in my truck or having access to get in my truck. I'll stand there and stare at you while you load my truck, but you better be quick. Anything more than an hour (maybe an hour if I'm generous) and I'll be in the sleeper.. WITH my keys.
That truck is my life. My home. My sanctuary. My personal property. Would you just hand over your car keys to some stranger or let someone just sit in your car with you? -
Forgot my sarcasm tags

I've got a key that stays in the ignition at all times, one I carry with me and one I have hidden. When they ask for keys I just give them one and use the other one for the radio. Had one loader ask me how my radio works without the key. I said I dunno I'm a driver not a mechanic.
As for having to stay out of the truck. I'd rather be outside. I get annoyed when I get banished to my cab because I pull a flat and I've got securement to do. -
I've had this done several times at various places over the years...but always was done by an employee. Also encountered the "turn in the ignition keys" while backed into dock before loading/unloading will start.
