I have been driving for 15yrs, mostly local (NC,SC,Va,Tenn,Ga). My wife is a corporate company woman and is just tired of the rat race. We've discussed teaming otr before but not really seriously. Now that our daughter is grown we're going to take the leap.
    Our Plan:
The wife is enrolling in a local community college CDL class to obtain her CDL's. When she completes the class, we would like to find a company that would possibly hire us both and let me be her trainer. I understand that since my otr time is limited and not recent, I may have to take some sort of refresher course, which is fine.
We live in eastern NC, does anyone have any suggestions or experience with a situation similar to ours? Is this plan possible or is there another route we should take?
Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

It's a great plan. Plenty of companies to choose from.
Freymiller has the "Restore Program" for drivers that have been off the road for awhile. You can team with your wife there if she decides to go for it.

Their teams don't stick around too long. It's good for solo drivers.

I spoke with Inman trucking out of Leland, NC (30min from my house). They seemed interested in us, but couldn't give specifics until the wife is finished school. Their west coast & back runs sound great and good money for a team. Them being a small company is really appealing too, plus no northeast is even better. I hope to find a few companies that sound this good between now and time to make a decision.
Thanks for the comments, keep'm coming.

I suggest you apply at, or at least speak to ODFL, you could sign on as a solo and then put your wife through the inhouse training, then team.
    $180k+ /year easy.

Shocker, did you get what you were looking for? I was able to train my wife from start to finish. No school for her. The only time she spent in the truck with anyone else was when she was being tested. Tons of different opportunities for you out there as I'm sure you know. We have been driving for three years now.
