If you can count on getting back every night. I know there are never breakdowns or weather delays in Iowa, or at shippers and receivers

 

Better off to have a small bunk just in case. Sometimes delays at receivers and weather and you are out of hours. Loads get cancelled, all kinds of things. I think there is a lot of decent short haul in Midwest but I wouldn't do it without a backup plan. There isn't always a hotel available with parking where you need it

 

I live just east of Des Moines and have narrowed my running to Midwest only for most of this century. You could do a Des Moines to Chicago burb area and back in 11 driving hours. KC and Eastern Nebraska easy deal. I don't narrow things as much as what you are asking, but I generally keep everything within 500 miles of the house in any direction. Occasionally bounce out a little further. I am by the house a couple of times a week and off on the weekends. But as has been stated, having a small sleeper would be advised. Too many variables that can mess things up. Of course, occasional motel time is an option also.

 

Nope. Going thru a carrier. I just limit what I will do. They have a pretty good base of stuff that runs in the midwest only. I let others take stuff everywhere else. The shorter haul stuff I do has better rate than the longer stuff the others do.
