Wild chase dash cam--bad guy caught, no one hurt--but is it a good idea for truckers to get involved and assist by blocking the freeway? What happens if something bad happens, besides lawyers? Anyone have a company with an official policy? http://trucker.com/trucker-jobs/dash-cam-week-serve-and-pursue

I don't know if the company my husband works for has a policy or not. He leases, so if any damage occurred, it would be on him, and I don't even know if his insurance would cover repairs when doing a block like this.
There have been reports in the past where semi's have blocked someone on the run successfully. There was even the one case a couple of years ago where a trucker saw the car of person who had abducted a child (I believe it was the spouse). I think on this one there was a high speed chase for awhile also where the guy was able to get away. The trucker followed him and then got in front, seems like he had a cb and there was another trucker involved in the slowdown and block.
This guy was just one lucky idiot, hope they keep him in jail for awhile. -
I watched an episode of Cops a few years ago and they were chasing a car on the interstate and they got on 19 asking drivers to stay side by side.
Police chase or not, ain't no 4wheeler passing me on the should any day of the week, not on my watch

NavigatorWife Thanks this. -
Well technically they didn't do anything wrong. Just the usually rolling road block to piss of 4wheelers who's tailgating us.

I wouldn't do it.

No way in hades would I do it. If something goes wrong, well like the saying goes "If it happens 100 yards around the trailer, it's the drivers fault" I just don't want the liability.

I have assisted officers back in the 90's to slow a vehicle down, along with another driver blocking both lanes, police was able to stop the cash and thanks us, and would do it again if ever asked to

seen a dashcam video from the 90's of a USA truck and another truck blocking a car for police... coulda been you?

As a general rule, I don't help the police. They aren't out here helping me do my job...quite the contrary. I see no reason why I should risk my equipment to make their job easier, especially when I'll be the one experiencing down time and paying repair bills if the guy they are chasing crashes into me. Nope. If I have the chance, I'll get out of the way and give them the space they need to NOT involve me in whatever mayhem they are bound to cause up the road.
LoneCowboy, osokusmc, gokiddogo and 3 others Thank this. -
I would never help them. There is plenty of tax money to repair their cruisers in case of a wreck. I will pull over and get out of the way the best I can. Nobody will lift a finger to help you if they cause damage to your truck. All they will say is Thanks for your help........Sorry about your truck and away they would go. They can do their job just fine without any assistance from me. It's none of my business I'm not getting involved.
