I understand not wanting people injured or dead, but a car can stop a lot faster than a truck, if you can stop, a car should have plenty of time to stop. Also weather you stop suddenly from slamming on the brakes, or stop suddenly from hitting the guy in front of you, the guy behind you still has to stop to avoid you. At least if you hit the brakes the guy will see your brake lights and also not have a wreck in front of him to avoid. Your logic is very flawed.

A rear end is bad news in the truckin industy. A rear end is usually the fault of the person who was behind due to the fact of following too closely. Who cares about the car behind you, did he hit you? If not then he had enough time to stop. Remember, object in mirrors appear closer

im not saying that i agree with his decision , im merely saying that i see his concern, but my first reaction would have been to stomp the brakes and hang on. but all i am really saying is that different individuals have different reactions whether they be right or wrong. and a car can stop faster than a truck this is true , but people in cars are sometimes on a cell phone and dont always pay enough attention to make that car stop fast enough. like i said im not taking sides just pointing out what he may have been thinking at that time and that we have all made a bad decision at one time or another.ajohnson Thanks this.

I didn't mean to call you out, I meant the op's thinking was flawed not yours. I just quoted yours for to agree about the value of human life. Sorry for not making that clear, I should have made 2 separate posts, but I'm lazy.bubbaray30 Thanks this.

A U haul driver once snapped a power line pole that cut power to the whole East Mesa portion of Las Cruces, NM during a Superbowl playoff game. The local police had to stand guard to keep the local football fans from lynching the poor guy.
Sometimes taking out the pole isn't the best solution.

I don't believe the op has 44 years of driving experience. If you really have, and you get yourself into this situation you have just repeated your first month's driving experience 528 more times and learnt nothing.
You can ( and clearly do) have great spatial awareness in noticing everyone around you, then wipe it all out following too close. -
Hi, im the one who lifted 10 minutes earlier..
Stay away from people If you can..Everyone is a hazard man
Sometimes your stuck in it, I know...Even then you can lift drop back and watch the idiot show on your big screen windshield...
My other first thought...I was hired at Central to replace a man that was cut in half and incinerated after rear ending a flatbed...He was in a prostar and that danged ol trailer came right in....This a guy that fell asleep, so, not related to your bad day...reading your story, I was yelling at the computer "no!! not the flatbed!!...lol
Oh, and as youve heard, its illegal to hit anything with your vehicle...
Think about that when you drive...As laws are written, if you hit a red light runner, you have earned a citation for 'failure to control vehicle' !!
Your supposed to plan for that too!!
So, you might end up like me driving 5mph everywhere with your foot hovering over the brake pedal!!!
I say your career aint over, and youll be good from here on out, you'll be paranoid now about it all and likely wont be in this arena again...If your not paranoid or trippy about it, then I think your too scary to be on the road!! LOL -
If you weren't ticketed at the scene, that is a very good break for you.
So have you got a copy of your DAC from hireright? Is the accident on there?
As far as your previous employer, these companies are getting pretty squeamish about reporting accidents. They give start date and end date, and not much more. If there is no documentation of this "incident", maybe it never happened if you know what I mean.
Edit: I don't know how old you are, but it is fact that some companies will look for reasons to run off drivers in their 70's. You just will have to deal with that, but I think your employable.Last edited: Jan 19, 2016

That's the kind of story I expect to hear from a rookie, not someone with 44 years behind the wheel. 44 years is long #### time to go without hitting anything. You're lucky this one wasn't worse. Maybe it's time to count your blessings and enjoy life from a fishing boat or something. You probably won't get that lucky next time.
