I won't mention the name of the company, but I work for a bad company that keeps pressuring me to run beyond the legal limit. this company requires 7 days notice before you quit, I put in my notice in writing 9 days ago. They refuse to get me home, they keep booking me loads that take me in the wrong direction.
They say I'll be arrested if I abandon the truck or deadhead home. All week they have been harassing me, dispatch calling when I'm sleeping, if I shut my phone off they will have another driver knock on my door. Even when I informed them I am tired they demand I drive because I have hours, when I refuse they send me further away. I start a new job in 3 days and I'm 700 miles from home. they just canceled another load that would get me home because it would require me to drive after my 11 hours and I refused it.

I'm tired, stressed out, and I don't know what to do. My fear is they are going to strand me out here.

    can anyone help?

First off you won't be arrested. If anything you can let the D.O.T know what they are doing to you. I would not abandon their truck. It will affect you when they put it on your record. You have to be smart. You should not have refused that load going towards your house that is the direction you want to move in. You only drive the amount of time that you are legally able to drive. It does not matter what the person behind the desk says or think. You are the one driving the truck. You can't let people control you like that. I hope all works out for you

If they book you a load headed home, start heading that way. If it was me, I wouldn't even worry about HOS on that load home. I'd drive it straight thru and give em their truck back asap.

You should have taken the load heading home and not refused it.
Keep the fuel tanks topped off in case they cut off your fuel card and head home. Turn the truck in at the nearest terminal on the way.

I would have taken the load going home and deliver it late or from it at a terminal on the way. Much better choices then loosing the new job or truck abandonment.

Get empty and either deadhead home, or park it at a truckstop and find your own way back. You already have a job lined up, so don't worry about your DAC report. It is a credit reporting agency anyway, so you can dispute false information they try to put on it. Send an email of your intent once you deliver. Make a "paper trail" of your communications.

What they are doing is keeping you enslaved. It could be considered kidnapping, which bank robbers get charged with when they tell people to move against their will.

You might want to call a lawyer for advice in case they try to report the truck stolen. For that reason, "abandonment" may be your best bet. You fulfilled your obligation (courtesy, actually) by giving them notice. Now it's time to get away from your captors.

Just call office explain you have new job. And you will be home in 3 days , where do they want their truck . In the end when they know you're serious they will figure something out. To save money on having to try to recover the truck can accommodate you in the process just stand your ground

    Grow a pair.

    Seriously.

Call the office give them 2 choices. You leave the truck where they want it, or dead head to the yard.

If you leave the truck don't take the keys. Secure the truck and either mail the keys to them or hide on the truck.

The worst they can do is not pay you. That's a civil issue and you would have to sue them.

They can report the truck stolen, but if you're not in possession of it what are you worried about ?
