Let me ask you this:
Corvettes come with either manual or automatic transmissions. Which would you think would be more fun to drive lol
I had an 85 with a manual. It was very cool. 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th but 2nd 3rd and 4th what you would do in those gears is get the rpm's up and push the overdrive button on top of the shifter kinda like a 'splitter' on a 13/18 speed.
Most corvette owners are stick shift purists. Most of the used corvettes I see for sale are autos lol.Wargames Thanks this. -
Same question with different vehicle... Which ever is chosen and why is purely up to the individual that opts to drive one over the other.
Question is; do corvette owners of manual transmission deride and bully the owners who opt for auto transmissions as ignorant, unsafe, and may never be able to drive a "real" corvette???
And my short answer:
more fun? Manual... Of course...

Its a conspiracy. All these old timers with messed up knees dont think its fair that us new blood get to come into this industry and be spared the pain they had to endure.

If you see a good deal on an auto, let me know... I am already married and don't need to impress anyone... Oh wait... Naw, I want a real car... Vroom Vroom... Let's ride!!!scottied67 Thanks this.

The true automatics by Allison are more ideal for applications that require a lot of low speed manuevering like vocational trucks and construction.
You can put an allison auto in an OTR truck but it loses some road versatility due to the lack of gear steps. IIRC, the Allison 6 speed autos have a huge step between 5th and 6th. 1:00 to .64.MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
Would it be challenging to learn to drive a manual in a truck if you have never driven a manual transmission in any vehicle in ones life? As in - ever? *reluctantly raises hand* lol

It would be better because the driver doesn't bring what they already know about manual shifting of a car to the table which is different than shifting a truck.
In my case I kept pushing the clutch in too deep and had a bad habit of taking it out of gear the last few yards coming up to a stop sign/light like I did in all my manual vehicles prior. -
Might actually be easier to learn since the manual in a big truck works a bit differently than ones in cars and lighter duty trucks.
You won't be fighting old habits that one can develop while driving the easier manuals of the lighter vehicles.
Sometimes starting fresh is actually better.FozzyNOK Thanks this. -
