He owned two trucks before for some company. Couldn't make it with bad drivers and companies ripping him off. So he went to buy a new truck and leased onto me when I started out with a year or so under the belt.
I'm not sure what he does with his money/taxes/receipts. I just check the safety logs, keep a %, send a paycheck, and of course offer him fuel cards etc. Last year is where he started running really hard. All I did was issue him his 1099 and apparently now he has to pay more than 6k in taxes and he's freaking out. But I talked to him earlier today and he said he paid off his truck and got left with 70k but has to pay taxes.
I think it's a little bit of BS. I think the company he is on now doesn't let him have the freedom such as booking his own loads/paper logs and skims a bit off the top and does that force dispatch where f he doesn't like 4-5 loads they let him sit. I think that's the truth why he wants to come back but I told him I can't today because I signed on 6 other guys, even tho I didn't lol

I personally wouldn't have lied to him. Especially if he is also called friend. Thought you valued that more than he did but I guess not. On the other hand I would have no problem telling him "no". And the reason why. Business is business and you can't let friendship get in the way of you and your families financial security. Then if he walked away from the friendship then it's On him. At least you would have been up front and honest with this so-called friend.

I agree. You lying to him just showed that you are a weakling and a pushover. Telling him the truth might make him realise that he needs help

One more chance. If he runs illegally? Poke him in eyes, twist his ears and fire him, and your friendship. Tell him upfront. This is it! One more chance! Screw up and your arse will make skid marks down the road after I kick it that hard. One more chance. Then, don't let the door hit ya, where the good Lord split ya!
Flipflops Thanks this. -
I'd give him another chance on Elog. Try to really get through to him that the days of running like that are long gone because all it takes is a lawyer to subpoena cell phone records, credit card statements etc, and your life is over. And that you refuse to risk your livelihood for him no matter how much he needs money. If he burns you after that conversation then you're better off losing that friend

He didn't wanna hear the truth. He isn't the closest friend but I figured he wasnt honest after the first time he did it.

it is too bad but these are the guys that are causing the ever tightening rules to be enacted
not the guys an hour from home sitting in a TS for another 10 or going home -
Do you have a company handbook with written rules for the drivers to follow with consequences for breaking the rules?

Flipflops, tried to PM you but couldn't get to your home page. 700,000 miles pulling double and triples. Looking now.
