This is to settle an argument with a friend.

The HOS were unchanged from their creation in the 1930's until 2003 when the 11/14/10 rules with the 34 hour reset provision were put into effect.
So no, there was no reset in 1985.Studebaker Hawk, brian991219 and otherhalftw Thank this. -
Back then they ran on recap hours.
otherhalftw and PackRatTDI Thank this. -
Actually they were changed between the '30s and 1960. They were unchanged from then until 2003.
The old rules had one thing going, and that was flexibility. The thing they lacked was reality. A day wasn't 18 hours long. In 3 days, your main sleep had shifted from the am to the pm. And no reset. -
That's a lost art these daysStraight Stacks and otherhalftw Thank this.

Some of us "old farts" still know the art....and use it!Straight Stacks Thanks this.

The 10 was 8, and you could pull off and take a nap or chat and keep going for your balance of 10 before the next 8. Flexibility...exactly what we can't do now, and what the beef is all about with the new rules.Studebaker Hawk, KB3MMX and tech10171968 Thank this.

I do it much to the chagrin of my safety department. None of them worked in the industry when that's all we had.tech10171968 and otherhalftw Thank this.

At my old carrier I used to drive the safety department insane when I would log a split sleeper berth. Half of them never heard of it and it would just confuse them. Lucky for me that the department head was an old hand and knew what I was doing; heck, he's the one who taught me!KB3MMX and otherhalftw Thank this.
