Where are Magnum's dead zones for freight and how terrible are the miles these days?

I've been averaging between 2500-3000. Haven't really found any 'dead zones' Dispatch usually does a great job. I've only had one layover day in the last month. I did take a load 2x that had an extra day, but it got me by the house to sleep in my bed with my wife. Some things are worth an extra day... To me

SSB has a different opinion or experience.... About everything... But he's one of us... So we love him. He's our dark cloud! Lol

Just call Paul. He will fill you in. He's a busy guy but he will get back to you.

I started with 5 months experience. I had to ride with a trainer for a few weeks.

For me, TX (specifically the north TX-DFW area), MI, CO and GA have been fairly unproductive. Either I have to wait well after I am empty before they find me a load, or what few pre-planned loads I can get them to offer have one or more extra days that they may, or may not offer a layover day (which pays less than half of the amount an average day of miles would pay).

    xlsdraw and RMU91 Thank this.

Here is how many layover/ghost miles I had last month according to the company portal.
    20160224_090715.png

The month before I had about half that.

To put things into perspective as to why I am so disappointed with things so far, in my 1st 12 weeks I have had a lot go wrong. In the 1st 12 weeks after orientation I have had 10 34 hr restarts (whether I needed them or not), 2 payroll f-ups on loads over 1000 miles (one of which I caught before payroll cut off), I have had issues with my Peoplenet locking up weekly forcing a system reset (and no one can figure out why), my Peoplenet randomly loses GPS lock, causing a minor elog location issues. Because of when my truck was issued to me, it was never equipped with Prepass, and my Best pass transponder doesn't work with Prepass/NC PASS systems, and the person who is responsible for replacing it has told me after the third message from me (in a month) that he was busy, and that he would inform me when he orders another, and that was more than 3 weeks ago. My truck issues, although it hasn't broken down, it pulls worse than the truck I owned that had an 11.1 350 hp Detroit, and it's fuel mpg will result in a pay drop at my 4 month evaluation, and no one seems to be concerned about it other than me. The insurance agent for the company Magnum uses screwed up my wife's DOB, so when she tried to use the insurance, they rejected it, then took over a week to respond to my wife's calls and emails trying to fix it. So this issue with the shop screwing up my windshield replacement appointment is just one in a long line of disappointing experiences.

All this, and an average take home pay of around $700 per week BEFORE 'living on the road' expences for an experienced OTR driver, pitiful...it almost seems as though I am being asked to leave without them using the words. So unless things drastically change in the next few months, I will oblige their wishes.

As of right now, based on the level of problems I have endured in my 1st 3 months here, Magnum is in a dead heat with Poly for 2nd worst decision I have made in regards to employment in trucking.

Don't know about Magnum specifically, but generally and in my experience, south Georgia and anywhere in or near Florida is one area that is consistently crappy. Luckily most of my trips to Florida are delivering full beer kegs to 4 or 5 distributors and back hauling empty ones. Hauling other freight to Florida for me has either involved sitting for a day or more only to end up deadheading to Georgia for another load or just directly deadheading to Georgia.

I don't think Magnum even runs Florida. I won't miss running there except maybe during the winter.
